Tough Pitching Halts Biloxi in Final Regular-Season Meeting

By Andrew Chapman / Biloxi Shuckers

22-year-old catcher Alexander Alvarez has had a nice mini-sample of 30 June AB's (.937 OPS). He had the lone multi-hit game in this one.

Box: DSL Dodgers "Shoemaker" Squad 14, DSL Brewers/Indians 3

When reviewing the box, know that the first three pitchers listed (of the six) are Brewer farmhands. Each has faced struggles in the early going, though this was a better effort from 17-year-old rookie Venezuelan RHP Ronnald Rojas.

Little to comment on offensively, we'll note 19-year-old 2nd-year switch-hitting Dominican first baseman Francisco Gonzalez for his double, walk, and .824 OPS after 49 AB's.

Box: DSL Brewers 7, DSL Cubs #2 Squad 3

Long climb back to .500 at 12-12, and vs. the Cublets, too, nice!

Three rookie RHP's with shiny ERA's among the mound stars in this one. Of the three, Panama's Rafael Garcia and Mexico's Fernando Olguin, both 18-years-old, are doing it with sweet peripherals as well.

Remember when you had legs that were not even 17-and-a-half years old? Joneiker Ponce de Leon is 8-for-8 in SB attempts, 3-for-5 with a double and three RBI here.

DSL Brewers Bottom of the 5th

Rafael Martinez strikes out swinging.

Reidy Mercado flies out to center fielder Ezequiel Alvarez.

Joneiker Ponce de Leon singles on a ground ball to left fielder Marco Valenzuela.

Alejandro Marte doubles (6) on a fly ball to left fielder Marco Valenzuela. Joneiker Ponce de Leon scores.

Erys Bautista grounds out, second baseman Ronny Simon to first baseman Christhian Espinal.

DSL Cubs2 Top of the 6th

Defensive Substitution: Eduarqui Fernandez replaces right fielder Alejandro Marte, batting 3rd, playing right field.

Hopefully not an issue, game was just 1-1 at the time. Marte missed time earlier, but has been killing it when active (1.030 OPS).
