Kudos to Joe Alexander in San Antonio, who has provided fine Missions' photo galleries we've linked to, on breaking the Keston Hiura / Tyler Saladino call-up news on Thursday.

AUDIO via WSCO: "Mike Saeger (San Antonio Missions play-by-play commentator) joins the show to chat about what he’s seen from Keston Hiura & how he’s done since returning from Milwaukee in early June"

By the way, it's from ten days ago and from a fan travel perspective, but Mike Saeger also chatted with Jay Sorgi of WTMJ in an interesting piece (go to the 18:20 minute mark).

Final: AZL Rangers 2, AZL Brewers Blue 1

AZL Brewers Blue Box Score

Another strong effort on the mound from Nick Belzer was not enough as the Blue bats fell silent and a late error allowed the Rangers' game-winning run to score.

Belzer, an Iowa native who signed as a non-drafted free agent after the draft, worked 6 innings and allowed a run (his first as a pro) on 4 hits and a walk, while striking out 7. His pro ERA after two starts now sits nicely at 0.69. Another few outings like this, and well, the Vibes' staff needs a lot of help.

Belzer was relieved by Pablo Garabitos, the converted outfielder. Despite being drafted last year and playing a half season in the outfield, Garabitos doesn't turn 19 until the end of July. He's actually younger than 2019 17th rounder Kelvin Bender, a fellow prep lefty. Garabitos has been pitching well, too, and allowed no runs in 1 2/3 inning, striking out 3.

Eddy Tavarez had an unfortunate 9th inning, which we'll show in the game log below.

Teenage outfielders Arbert Cipion and Terence Doston had two hits apiece, but that was literally all the offense the team could muster. No walks drawn, no pitches leaned into. Cipion raised is batting average to .297, but has struck out >50% of the time, so clearly he's still a work in process.

Keyber Rodriguez flies out to right fielder Anderson Melendez.

Fernando Valdez grounds out, pitcher Eddy Tavarez to first baseman YongKang Kou.

Final: AZL Brewers Gold 5, AZL Giants Black 3

AZL Brewers Gold Box Score

Felix Valerio cracked a season-high 3 hits and everyone else in the lineup hit exactly one single, as the two teams traded runs late with the Golds coming out on top. Valerio was one of the three players acquired from the Mets in the Keon Broxton trade. He slashed .319/.409/.433 last year in the DSL for the Mets and is off to a .321/.367/.429 start for the Brewers in the AZL.

34th rounder Josh Shapiro made his first pro start and threw 5 scoreless innings, striking out 5 against no walks and three hits. Jose Parra pitched 2 scoreless innings for his third save.

AZL Brewers Gold Game Log

Roberto Molina walks. Ashton McGee to 2nd.

Whenever I see the Maryvale Gold lineup, I tell myself Ashton McGee must know Spanish.

And clearly, as I hinted at the other day, it must be a new plan for catchers do go all nine innings in Maryvale this year, as we're seeing it consistently.
