Flip Arcia and Cain and set the lineup for a bit.

Former Brewer farmhand, Cy Sneed, made his MLB debut today.
"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

I got caught up in work, did Arcia hit a grand slam?

3 run HR

I was about to type that a real 2B would make that play, but I could see Hiura putting that throw to the backstop, too. While all the headlines go to pitching issues, defense is quietly poisoning this season.

Really? You must be seeing something I'm not then. The Brewers are certainly not a top-notch defensive squad with Moose at 2B, but I haven't seen any concerning issues defensively.

Play around with the table here https://www.baseball-reference.com/leagues/MLB/2019-standard-fielding.shtml to see what I mean. The Crew is average this year in terms of fielding percentage (Moose has the 2nd most errors, if one puts stock in that kind of stat) but most of the advanced metrics look brutal for our team defense. You can even tab over to the 2018 figures to compare with last year’s stellar effort. I really think team defense is a huge missing ingredient this year, and deserves more attention.

Yeah I've mentioned it in the past as well, and when there's such a difference between xFIP/FIP and ERA the defense is likely a big part of it. Something as simple as defensive efficiency (Which is more or less the inverse of BABIP) illustrates the struggles fairly well; Brewers are the 6th worst team in the majors at turning balls in play into outs.

3 run HR. Chase Anderson drove in the first run with a sac bunt suicide squeeze.

I missed it, but was it a true suicide squeeze, or just a sac squeeze?

I real suicide means the runner at 3rd breaks for home with the pitch and does not wait to see the ball has been bunted, hence suicide. It's do or die...

I find it hard to believe they would try that with Anderson at bat.

Well, that settles that. We lost on the Yelich trade and the Santana trade. Santana would have easily made that play that Yelich just bumbled. Might as well have just made Santana our regular right fielder and kept those prospects we dealt for Yelich

WOW! That sure looked like a true suicide squeeze! Kudos to Chase for getting that one down...

This feels like one of those days where Anderson throws 7+ shutout innings and flirts with a no-no. He's on the rotational chopping block and he knows it. I don't care if this is viewed as a jinx...I'm sticking to my guns.

Well 5 1/3 and only 3 hits, close enough considering the last few starts, nice call

Just let Chase keep going.

Edit: Figures.

It was a good time to suicide. Unexpected with the bases loaded, and Leake would likely be pitching to contact on the first pitch against the pitcher. The only super negative that could happen would be if Chase whiffs it completely or pops it up.

Yelli in center!

Santana in right!

The defense will be tight!

Jesus is starting to show some signs of life. Taking better swings.

I have more faith in him getting it together than Shaw. He has a better swing. I’m probably one of the few who wouldn’t give up on him this year.

Aguilar slapping singles is okay but really doesn’t do much. He needs to find the power stroke to really add something of value.
