Well Gamel has a great chance to do some damage against his old team now.

He did what I thought he would do ... Domingo in that situation would have been a lot better, normally.

Your love affair with Domingo is quite honestly coming off a little weird at this point. I think everyone knows your stance on him, maybe just give it a rest for awhile.

I tend to believe the DJ thing is exaggerated, but I wonder what the Brewers think now about not just giving him whatever it is that he wanted. I always wondered if it was a Counsell thing. A concern about DJ asserting too much control over the staff/power over the team, etc. No clue, just something I wondered.

I do think he probably made some difference, but I think, in baseball especially, their influence is greatly exaggerated. They're important, but it's not like every guy suddenly forgot every piece of advice he gave. This is a combination of bad luck, regression, inadequate talent and yes, probably coaching too.

I do agree with this almost completely.

It's certainly a combination of factor, probably all of the above.

Those I disagree with are the ones that maintain that DJ made no difference at all and it's just the pitchers. Yes, a good pitching coach can make a difference. At least I believe so. I believe Dave Duncan was an enormous influence, for example, in his time in St. Louis.

Playing this game without the services of a position player really hurts. So now after Shaw hits the remaining bench tonight consists of just Thames and Piña with 4 innings to go. That hurts in this scenario where you are trying to come from behind with an offensive surge.

Hiura just homered again. He has 24 (!!) this year.

I hate that he's not up and I think it's a mistake they continue to compound. Yes, pitching has been the main culprit in June but I do think the Hiura demotion has hurt us. Winning games 9-8 counts just the same as winning 3-2.

Another argument for Dubon over Perez next year:

Options and flexibility. You've got none with Perez. Sure, he's versatile, but he's highly mediocre. Mediocrity has its place, but it sure is nice if you can send that mediocrity down for awhile to AAA when you have a stretch with other pressing needs coming first. You have that flexibility with Dubon -- not with Perez.

LIKE

It has to be only days away before he joins the big team again. As has been discussed numerous times, the question is, who goes away? Shaw really really really really needs to be sent down.

Strike that. Winning games 9-8 are better than losing them 8-6

I've been a big Perez supporter but I totally agree with this. He hasn't shown enough to pay him in arby when another guy is coming up and is ready to perhaps improve upon your mediocrity at the plate. Getting rid of either/both Thames and Aguilar would help as well...find a first basemen who can competently play the OF and the super versatility of Perez shouldn't be needed anymore.

I completely agree, and the come from behind win after Hiura’s game tying HR in Pittsburgh against Vasquez is a great example of one the Brewers likely lose without Hiura on the roster. It’s impossible to know if outcomes would have been different, but it’s hard to imagine the bat wouldn’t have helped ignite some big innings over the past few weeks.

I know this is going to sound crazy and the odds are probably less than 2%, but with each day that goes by without Hiura on the roster the thought has slowly creeped into my mind that it may not be Super 2 protection or defensive development holding him down. It is starting to feel like there is at least a very small chance they plan to entertain trading Hiura for a big splash such starting pitcher under team control for a few years (i.e. Noah Syndergaard). Again, not likely at all, but seemingly slightly more conceivable than if he was on this big league roster right now.

If the idea was to move him he is more valuable now than at any other time before. The dude has stud written all over him at this point. The reality is they were trying to save some cash and it's bite them in rear. It's why nothing about this has made sense since he got shipped out.

This has been a less than inspiring performance from JimmyN.

The fact he is going to take up a bullpen spot to likely serve in a mop up duty only role for the foreseeable future isn’t a great situation for either him or the team at this point.
