It does matter, especially with this pitching staff. I would say Shaw and Aguilar have been catastrophic. I, like many, thought Aguilar regression was likely. But my idea of regression was something like .245/.320/.760. Shaw hitting .160 was something I never saw coming. These are all-star conversation players who are now below replacement level. They play (for the most part) every day. IMO they have been a far bigger problem than any young arms sputtering.

I’ve lost count of how many times over the past few weeks I’ve done the math on this scenario, “a Grand Slam would get them back within...”

In some cases it has been “two Grand Slams...”

Not just “at Night” anymore.

I guess I’m not surprised to see this team being blown out by another group of bums. It’s getting towards the sad level now

I would start by kicking Hook to the curb. Practically every pitcher on this staff has regressed badly under his watch.

Agreed. Usually you have at least some guys who have success and now that Davies is struggling Hook doesn't really have a single guy to hang his hat on and say that a guy has been performing well under his tutelage.

Obviously more talent is always welcome, but it's 90% of the same staff as last year.

But those who deny DJ made a difference picked their side from Day 1 and have their heels dug in, and are likely to dig them in further the more the evidence presents itself.

The team got lucky with their pitching staff last year. Chacín has a career year, Miley revitalized his careee, Gio was a shot in the arm. Even Anderson was okay despite giving up a ton of homers.

This year they just don’t have the horses in the rotation, which subsequently exposes the middle inning relievers having to pitch earlier and more often

Maybe we had a great pitching coach that got the best out of everyone and now we don't. I would fire this pitching coach alone on the huge regression from Burnes who has top of the rotation ability.

It’s not even the pitcher not going 5 innings; it’s the fact Davies buries the team early in the process. Now the bullpen has to cover 5 innings in a likely loss

That’s been the story in many games in the last few weeks.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

I tend to believe the DJ thing is exaggerated, but I wonder what the Brewers think now about not just giving him whatever it is that he wanted. I always wondered if it was a Counsell thing. A concern about DJ asserting too much control over the staff/power over the team, etc. No clue, just something I wondered.

I do think he probably made some difference, but I think, in baseball especially, their influence is greatly exaggerated. They're important, but it's not like every guy suddenly forgot every piece of advice he gave. This is a combination of bad luck, regression, inadequate talent and yes, probably coaching too.

I think leadoff BBs are my greatest source of frustration in the game of baseball. And that is saying a lot, as the entire game is an exercise in sisyphean masochism.

You’re saying their memory was erased after last season basically. :laughing
