Box: DSL Pirates #1 Squad 6, DSL Brewers/Indians 2

17-year-old 6'3" Venezuelan RHP Edwin Jimenez has been inserted as a starter to begin his DSL career, that's normally a good sign the Brewers see a bit "more" in a signee (Carolina's Nelson Hernandez, for instance). Four scorelss here (1 H, 4 K, 4 BB).

Three relievers (Brewers all) were each victimized to some extent.

The team managed only five hits while drawing nary a walk and fanning 13 times.

Elian Gonzalez moved across the diamond to 3B and singled twice.

Playing first base was switch-hitting Dominican 19-year-old 2nd-year-pro Francisco Gonzalez, wo clubbed his first pro HR (it was right-handed).

2nd-year infielder Alberis Ferrer played for the first time in twelve days, starting at shortstop, while Carlos Roa remained idle.

Indians players have contributed nil to this squad, save for a few effective middle relief performances.

The 17-year-old RH-hitting Colombian rookie Jaraba, a 3B/SS, is showing to be interesting, for sure, 3-for-5 here.

A 19-year-old Dominican 3rd-year-pro, RF Alejandro Marte continues a potential breakout, on base four times in this one (three doubles and a walk) and now slashing .379/.471/.655, granted in a nine-game sample (he missed time earlier this month).

***

Another rookie RHP the Brewers have identified with starter potential is 18-year-old Panamanian Rafael Garcia, who has rewarded them with a 1.08 WHIP through four starts. A pretty five-inning line here.

Three relievers combined for five innings of two-run (only one earned) ball the rest of the way.

***

Another injury situation to watch --

DSL Brewers Top of the 5th

Alejandro Marte doubles (3) on a line drive to center fielder Carlos Mendoza, deflected by left fielder Enrique Batista.

Wild pitch by pitcher Lisandro Marin. Alejandro Marte to 3rd.

Juan Frias singles on a line drive to right fielder Jose Rodriguez. Alejandro Marte scores.

Offensive Substitution: Pinch-runner Sebastian Burciaga replaces Juan Frias.

Mauricio Dubon still splicing MiLB highlights of himself (from the prior game) will never stop being wonderfully fantastic.

Box: Biloxi 5, Mississippi 2

The 2-through-5 in the lineup not even close to "homegrown", but hey, there was a player gap to fill this past offseason at this level with minor league talent, not super-veteran talent, looking for homes.

Carolina Pre-Game Media Notes

Box: Carolina 9, Potomac 4

Mudcats Win Second Straight 9-4 in Potomac

Payton Henry had a three hit night and Tristen Lutz scored twice and had a RBI triple for Carolina

***

Tristen Lutz triple, single, walk; Payton Henry has more than doubled his May OPS in June, check out the splits. I think we can throw out that amazingly awful month.

Box: Grand Junction 5, Rocky Mountain 2

Alternative box includes inning-by-inning linescore

The Rockies scored three in the 9th to snap a 2-2 tie.

The injuries have delayed him, but Nash Walters is starting to pitch pretty well. Nine innings over two starts without giving up a run is tough to do in the Pioneer League.

Absolutely, Wisconsin should be getting some rotation help soon, you'd think.

Here's the team pitching numbers in the Pioneer League. Check out the Vibes' walk rate and WHIP vs. the rest of the league.

You'll note DH Bryan Torres (2-for-4 and his average drops!) and 1B Ernesto Martinez (his 2nd HR, single, walk) had fine offensive games.
