2019-06-21: Reds (Gray) at Brewers (Anderson) [Brewers lose, 11-7 -- 5th loss in a row, but Yelich and Moustakas each hit more dingers]

Eye Black
Why didn't the Reds care about Senzel super 2 status so he is helping them win but Brewers do with Hiura? Am I missing something?

Maybe you're missing David Stearn's 10-year-plan like Bulldogboy said a few posts back. :)

When you have a rotation full of guys that depend on location and have little room for error, I would expect results to fluctuate. Luis Castillo is light years better than any starter we have. Gray is better. Roark is probably as good as Woodruff and we have nothing behind that except maybe Davies. I strongly disagree that this Reds staff is short on talent.

And yet, none of those 3 guys had great results recently up until this season.

The Yankees were willingly looking to dump Gray after posting an ERA near 5 for them in 2018. Castillo has dropped over 2 runs on his ERA and nearly a run off his FIP from last season. Roark was coming off two very mediocre seasons in Washington.

I don't disagree that the Reds have better talent in their rotation, but talent doesn't automatically equate to better results as we saw with all 3 of them coming into this year. Absolutely a pitching coach can make a difference in unlocking those results.

I absoltuely believe that having better talent will lead to better results. Why else sigh a Grandal or Moose if they didn't think having that extra talent would lead to better results. Roark has had a very good career and I'd argue that his last couple of years were probably better than mediocre (last year more so). Castillo has always had this pedigree. His numbers will come back to earth a bit but he always had TOR potential. Gray was pretty darn good in Oakland. That talent didn't just disappear. Mahle was a top 100 guy. DeScalfini is the only one that hasn't been pretty darn good so does the DJ magic just not work with him? Still, he'd instantly be our second or third best pitcher.

On DeScalfini, I don't think any DJ supporter is saying that every pitcher under a good pitching coach is automatically going to be better.

I also don't think anyone is going to argue with you that better talent will lead to better results.

Burnes and Woodruff were both top 100 guys too. Peralta was right on the edge of it. That's 60% of our rotation to begin 2019. What do you think of these guys? Do you just think they were just overrated from the get-go, just not ready, or what? Honestly asking.

I'd like to have seen DJ get the chance to work with all 3 as members of our rotation this year, but that might just be me.

Stearns has this job for life. He has no sense of urgency. He can lay out a 10 year vision and Mark A is going to buy it. The urgency we fans feel is not matched by the guy making the decisions so it's going to be a long summer.

We get it. In your universe...the sky is falling. No need to beat a dead horse...

My bad I forgot. Give me a B!! Give me an R!! Let's go guys!! We can do this!! This team is playing well. Pitching is fine. Shaw is going to turn it around any day now.

My personal opinion is our pitch sequencing this year has stunk.

Is there any way to see our pitching splits this year for Grandal vs. Pina? That would be a good place to look at that since Pina is pretty well established here now.

See Castillo, Luis. By your own description he wasn't great last year. But he had potential and they knew it so they stuck with him. Sometimes you have to take as step back to take two steps forward. I'd rather have Burnes in the rotation figuring things out than watch Anderson pitch another inning.

but it's not like every guy suddenly forgot every piece of advice he gave

Interesting that a Shaw strikeout causes a half dozen rage posts, but a Yelich home run and it's crickets from the Chicken Littles in the IGT. Hmmmm....

We've been spoiled by him ... and Moose! Call the park ranger ... a moose is loose! :laughing

There's nothing shawful about those two!

Let's go Brew Crew!

I pretty much expect Yelich to hit a home run every time he comes to bat so it’s un amusing at this point...just kidding...it’s still highly entertaining :laughing

Now that it’s close again I wish they would have challenged Eugenio Suarez’s HBP in the 1st inning. Looked like it pretty clearly hit the knob of the bat and not his hand... I know, hindsight.

I see a 7-6 extra inning win with Chase only lasting three innings.

The pieces are falling into place. Except for that Chase Anderson three inning stuff.

If it turns out like you say ... and it has a chance ... I will send you an autographed picture of myself! :laughing

With Chase I was basically saying the Reds would jump out to a big lead, which they did, so I'm still pretty much on point.
