Initial out getters run givers.

The new term the front office is using appears to be “run-prevention unit” as a way to spread the blame to the defense in addition to the pitchers.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

This is MUCH more than just a rough patch that all teams go through. The starting pitching has been a problem all season except for the brief stabilization a month or so ago and now it has fallen off a cliff.

No reason to think it’s going to get significantly better.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Yeah, our pitching is just awesome.

They're not good, but it's pretty much all the same dudes from last year.

Derek Johnson made these bad pitchers look good. Without him leading the staff these are the results.

I've been beating that drum for awhile, but not everyone is convinced.

Domingo > Gamel ... Domingo has 15 bombs already with a .279 average as of yesterday ... that was a throwaway trade, sadly. Throw away a proven run-producer with lots of pop for a career backup.

I will cheer for Gamel, but it's stuff like this that makes me think that the Brewers have too much of a "small-market" mentality. We cannot afford too many good players, I guess, right?

Defense matters and Santana is pretty bad at it.

You cannot sell me that line ... I don't buy it!

Domingo is a DH and the NL doesn't have a DH. The only possible spot Domingo could take on defense would have been 1B and going into the season Aguilar > Domingo. The only other spot Domingo could have taken would have been Braun's spot in LF.

Gamel overall has the same value as Domingo does currently if you go by WAR.

It’s going to be like 2008 and 2011. The team will look promising and have a season run and then fall off for a few years.

Yep, mid-ling purgatory is looking this team in the face.

I hope not. Middling purgatory is like the worst place to be. I'd rather be a seller than in the middle.

I keep telling myself that there are too many guys that should be turning things around for this to last but after 76 games you start to wonder if that turnaround is ever coming.

Without Yelich this team is probably shopping Moose and Grandal at the deadline.

As much as I'm looking forward to seeing Hiura in a few days, I'll be about 10 times happier to see Gonzalez back on the hill. I don't think there would be any statistical backing for this, but it sure seemed like the pitching staff got a little better when he was available and has gone steadily downhill since he went on the DL.

I've been beating that drum for awhile, but not everyone is convinced.

I've seen more pitching "guru" types come and go than I'd like to admit. All of them were the best in the game.....until they weren't anymore. Mezzone was great until he didn't have Maddux, Glavine and Smoltz anymore. If you want to blame this all on not having DJ, fine. I'll side with the talent level being poor. So keep beating the drum I guess.

I never said all. I'm sure it's a combination. But like I said, the talent level is literally almost the exact same as last year.

I think we need to see what happens at the deadline this year and the off-season before we declare ourselves in middling purgatory.

Outside of Yelich, the best hitters are leaving after this year. We don't have much in terms of minor league assests and we have very little pitching. I agree we aren't there yet but it is certainly the elephant in the room.
