Fry has gotta be due for a promotion pretty soon I'd imagine. He's on pace for like 40 doubles.
"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

Grisham having a pretty nice AAA debut!

That's pretty exciting as it looks like he could line up perfectly with a need at the big league level.

I also hadn't noticed that Phil Bickford was back on the mound. Kinda a strange line in the few games he's been back. A .435 BAA, striking a lot of guys out. Gotta think this year is his last shot to show the Brewers something.

Cody Ponce keeps throwing well. Obviously he's viewed as a reliever moving forward. Wouldn't be shocked to see him moved up with an outside shot at pitching in Milwaukee yet this year. Surprised he didn't crack the Brewers top 30 on MLB pipeline as he's got good stuff, good K rates...

Rasmussen struggled a bit again tonight. Looks like it's going to take a minute or him to get adjusted to AA.

And Brice Turang again, just keeps raking atop the Rattlers lineup.

Then Henry or Feliciano will have to be moved up. They're already splitting time in Carolina. I'd assume it'd be Feliciano, but could be wrong.

But a log jam at catcher. Not exactly a big problem.

Carolina Pre-Game Media Notes

***

Box: Potomac 15, Carolina 2

Mudcats Open Second Half with 15-2 Loss in Potomac

Carolina wasted four leadoff doubles in Thursday's lopsided loss to Potomac

Well, this isn't promising --

"Braden Webb started and was only able to pitch through the first before leaving the game. Webb allowed a hit, but faced just three batters in the opening frame on 17 pitches (9 strikes) before departing."

The brief paragraph within on Phil Bickford is so Phil Bickford, it would seem --

"Bickford eventually took over for J.T. Hintzen in the sixth and would end up pitching through two full innings in the game for the Mudcats. Bickford allowed all three inherited runners to score in the sixth and also allowed a solo home run to Reetz in the seventh. In all, Bickford allowed two runs on four hits and struck out five over two innings pitched."

Box: DSL Rangers #1 Squad 8, DSL Brewers/Indians 1

Fifth appearance and first career start for 18-year-old Venezuelan RHP Yostin Villalobos, who acquitted himself well over four innings. Recently-turned 18-year-old Dominican RHP Deybi Arias was the other Brewer arm to see action, finishing up with two scoreless. Cleveland arms have had a tough 2019 for this squad, it seems on most days.

The club only managed five singles, three by Brewers (Gonzalez, Nino, Valderrama).

I continue to be fascinated by 19-year-old switch-hitting Panamanian CF Bryan Dimas, in his third season.

This year, Dimas is 1-for-24 with 18 K's (nine walks). On Thursday, 0-for-2 with a walk. He fanned in both his official AB's, with the second K marking a milestone, strikeout #200.

That'd be 200 K's in 329 AB's.

He's probably an absolutely great kid, sorry to highlight you in quite this way, Bryan, but we admire the determination and the Brewers' faith in you.

Box: DSL Rangers #2 Squad 12, DSL Brewers 1

Can't blame Indians hurlers on the full Crew squad...

With so many "graduated" DSL players helping to fill out two Maryvale teams, the DSL kids have a much-higher number of rookie-year kids, and the three relievers in this one are just getting their feet wet, as the box score lines (and small-sample ERA's) show.

3B Branlyn Jaraba 1-for-4 with the only Brewer extra-base hit, a double.

18-year-old 2nd-year Dominican LF Juan Frias singled twice and walked, and his overall peripherals hint that the RH bat could be one to watch.

Wonder if they'd have Fry skip Carolina? No knock on those other guys but sometimes with an older dude (Fry is 23) you kind of want to see what you have sooner than later.

Final: AZL Padres1 3, AZL Brewers Gold 2

AZL Brewers Gold Box Score

Despite multi-hit games from Jesus Chirinos, Francis Florentino, and Daniel Castillo, the Golds were only able to plate two runs and fell to 1-2 on the year. Max Lazar pitched two innings to start the game after being limited to one inning in his first AZL start. There were pro pitching debuts from Brock Begue (11th round), Peyton Long (30th round), and Zach Vennaro (NDFA).

AZL Brewers Gold Game Log

Tying run got to third with one out, but:

AZL Brewers Gold Top of the 9th

Daniel Castillo doubles (1) on a line drive to left fielder Yordi Francisco.

Wild pitch by pitcher Edgar Martinez. Daniel Castillo to 3rd.

Felix Valerio strikes out swinging.

Oswel Leones triples (1) on a line drive to center fielder Payton Smith. Daniel Castillo scores.

Ashton McGee strikes out swinging.

Final: AZL White Sox 11, AZL Brewers Blue 10 (14 innings)

Weather: 103 degrees, Clear.

Caleb Marquez caught all 14 innings.

That is not right, and something that they've pretty much always avoided in the past, even regarding nine innings.
