This team is heading for mid-ling purgatory again. This won't be a popular idea but with the number of holes this team has it may be time to consider that this may not be the year. See if they can restock the system with whatever they can unload that isn't essential to the long term future of the team.

Nelson doesn’t belong here yet

I don't think Nelson is ever going to be more than a middle/back of the rotation arm again. You can just see it in how the balls move for him now. I don't think this is something that's going to get better with time. He may well learn to pitch better and adjust, but his stuff is not coming back.

You see it in the FB by far the most. His fastball had late life..and the fact that he could hit 97 didn't hurt.

Not saying his career's done by any means, he's competitive enough that he'll figure out a way to be effective with the stuff he has now. But I was really hoping we'd see a version of the older Nelson and that with time he'd get most of the way back. I don't think there's much hope of that now.

It is a shame that this team has prioritized personal relationships over winning. There is no way to justify keeping Shaw in the bigs. You are doing him and the fanbase a disservice. The guy doesn't want to suck so why keep running him out there to be horrible? I don't get it at all.

Which is fine but we simply do not need yet another low 90's nibbler in the rotation. It really is sad.

The team needs a shakeup in the roster very quickly.

This aloof false confidence is not gonna' cut it.

Shaw ... you're outta' here.

Aguilar ... take a seat for awhile.

Arcia ... take a seat for awhile.

Nelson ... try to get ready at AAA.

Braun/Grandal/Thames at 1B only. Aguilar only pinch-hits.

Saladino at SS for a week while Arcia pinch-hits occasionally.

Hiura at 2B. No brainer. (Moose back at 3rd)

Houser/Peralta take Nelson's spot in the rotation.

Let's do this yesterday!!!

Let's be proactive ... not very slowly reactive. Small market teams gotta' be smarter! Come on, Stearns!

You don't just dump a guy who's produced ~8.5 WAR for you the past two years.

Arcia has to stay. He's hit the ball real hard right at people during this little slump, but his defense is too good. Aguilar got here in a pinch hitting role, so fine, he can move to the bench. Send Shaw back down and give him a few weeks/month. But he's been too productive to just get rid of.

No, I'd go with Burnes over Nelson right now. At least with Burnes, if he figures it out, he's right there with Woodruff as two young TOR type arms.

But you do have to feel bad for Nelson. Just such a unlucky turn of events. I think the idea that they trade and away guys and become sellers at this point is WAY-WAY premature. They were in 1st yesterday and that was after a long losing streak.

They're struggling. They'll come out of it.

Of all the injurys you dont want a pitcher to get its a labrum.

Many never come back from that. I would much rather see a Tommy John.

this is always my fear as well, and i stop myself from vocalizing it because it feels patently ridiculous. But like you said...what else explains this? Sure there's the idea that we don't cut bait on guys who have been very productive in the recent past, which of course few of us advocate for just dumping the under-performers. However, how we can just keep trotting out the same guys and getting the same results over and over, I can't be certain, but I think there's a colloquialism about what that's called.

"That ain't Chuckie's game. Chuckie hacks on 2-0."

Nelson had a shoulder injury nobody had ever came back from. Instead of. Non-tendering Nelson and trying to resign him for less they’ve paid him nearly 8 million dollars while he missed nearly a season and a half, now apparently diminished skills they have to try to eek out something for their 8 million bucks. A clear error in judgment by the GM

Please tell me more about how poorly run this organization is?

And what's this "prioritize personal relationships" nonsense? They simply didn't want to give up on a guy who's been one of the most productive 3rd basemen in the game the last couple years after a bad couple months.

There's isn't much to get other than he's been really-really good, now he's struggling and they're hoping he bounces back. They've got Hirura ready to go whenever they want to bring him back.

Someone help me out, does Shaw still have an option remaining? If so, that's the solution. If not, then..opps, that wrist is bothering him again(and it may actually be, you seldom seem hitters drop off this much).

I agree it's to early for a firesale but I certainly would answer the phone if someone came asking.
