Box: DSL Brewers 4, DSL Cardinals "Red" Squad 0

18-year-old rookie Mexican RHP Oscar Castaneda has a WHIP of 1.17 through his first three appearances (starts). Just two months older, Castaneda's fellow countryman, RHP Fernando Olguin, has yet to give up a run over nine innings (1.00 WHIP). Viva Mexico! Yet another first-year pro, Dominican RHP Junior Montero, pitched around a walk (his 11th in nine innings) in the final frame. The shutout came despite three Brewer errors.

SS Branlyn Jaraba has played in all 16 games, he doubled here. Likewise CF Eduarqui Fernandez ($1,100,000 bonus), who deposited his 2nd pro HR. Both are 17-year-old rookies. 18-year-old 2nd year 1B Juan Frias tripled. Contributions throughout, the names in bold below represent Crew members with two-hit games.

Three-run 7th for breathing room --

Box: DSL Brewers/Indians 10, DSL Cubs #1 Squad 9

The shared team was losing 9-1 at the stretch. No truth to the rumor Pedro Strop was on for the Cubs in the five-run walk-off co-op 9th -- Brewer batters are highlighted

DSL Indians/Brewers Bottom of the 9th

Henyer Gomez walks.

Jeicor Cristian walks. Henyer Gomez to 2nd.

The three middle relief pitchers are Brewers in the box, sandwiched by Tribe hurlers. 18-year-old 2nd-year Dominican RHP Starling Javier walked all three men he faced, and has now walked 27 and hit five in 12 career innings.

But there's hope, Starling.

How many of you Link Report veterans remember RHP Santo Manzanillo? Forty-seven walks in his first 16.1 innings in 2006, and do you know where he ended up? On the Brewers' 40-man roster, for all of 2012 and 2013. Never quite made it to the Show, but still, c'mon, pretty impressive.

Rocky Mountain Top of the 3rd

Michael Wilson strikes out swinging.

Antonio Pinero grounds out, shortstop Eddy Diaz to first baseman Owen Taylor.

Joe Gray grounds out, third baseman Cristopher Navarro to first baseman Owen Taylor.

Grand Junction Bottom of the 3rd

Defensive switch from left field to right field for Michael Wilson.

Defensive Substitution: Edwin Sano replaces center fielder Joe Gray, batting 3rd, playing left field.

That's either Gray tweaking something going down the line, or the classic rookie-level yank for not running hard - we tend to see the speculative "yank" after the occasional "get too mad after a strikeout" as well during the rookie summer games.

A check of the TV archive later will help.

Oh, Micah, got your sights set on a Pioneer League MVP Award, we see. He would go "only" 1-for-5 on the night.

Other than posting a fine .362 OBP in 33 Maryvale games in 2017 as an 18-year-old, it really hasn't gone well for 2017 5th round 3rd baseman Nick Egnatuck. Golden Sombrero in this one.

Ernesto Martinez hit his 4th career home run, Jose Sibrian his 2nd.

Infielder Luis Avila preparing for his 2023 Hernan Perez role, performing mop-up duty in his first-ever mound work:

Yes, that's the name of the Rockies farmhand, and yes, he did draw a base on balls earlier in the game.

Just watched, it was definitely not lack of hustle. It was end-of-inning, so the road feed cut away right away but it did appear Gray may have tweaked something as he approached the bag.

The Grand Junction announcer did not mention the substitution coming out of the break, but certainly would have later on. I won't be able to study that, so we'll monitor Gray's status in upcoming games.
