So, Hiura's AAA numbers mean nothing?

They mean that he is ready as a batter to be brought up to the big league club. But there are a lot of guys that put up silly numbers in AAA and it doesn't transfer.

Cain would not hit like Hiura at AAA like Hiura has, either.

Making these type of statements is a cop out to a real discussion because Cain will never be in AAA to prove this wrong.

Hiura is a pure hitter that has proven himself at every level ... Cain is in decline this season.

Hiura is a pure hitter that has proved himself capable at all levels so far. But calling Cain in decline right now is a bit premature. Lots of season left.

"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

I don't care what Counsell thinks, actually. Changes need to be made. That is fairly obvious. I'm not saying we should bench Cain. Just move him down in the order until he starts getting on base better.

This is not rocket science. But, it is based on probability. Hiura is more likely to get on base than is Cain. He and Cain have proved this all of 2019.

Sample size is too small to draw those conclusions

I want Hiura to come up, if only to put this "I have a fever, and the only cure is more Hiura cowbell" narrative to bed.

I would put Keston Hiura over Lorenzo Cain in the batting order quite confidently and I am not a Hiura bandwagoner. I don't think it can really be stated how absolutely terrible Cain has been this year at the plate. At 33 years old who knows how well he can hit long term. In all reality he was never a big time hitter anyway.

Small sample or not, but I feel like Hiura hitting for an .800 OPS is way more likely than Cain doing it at 33.

No. No, they haven't. Hiura had a nice stint with us and that is all great and dandy. Hiura looks like he is going to be a nice hitter for us but to just pencil in his production as if it is a certain is pretty foolish.

Truthfully Hiura doesn't really profile as a leadoff guy, I'd guess he's more of a 5 hitter when he comes back up and eventually a 3 hitter.

I'd probably go Thames right now against RHP who is sneaky good at getting on base, at least until Cain gets it going.

Cain was one of the top WAR guys in baseball last year and now you don’t even want him in the lineup? His WAR is double that of Bryce Harper’s this season...

I think you misread.

I am sure you could have understood I was referring to higher in the line up and not in the line up instead of him. Mostly because everyone knows they play entirely different positions and neither could do the other position.

I am not sure what this years WAR was to do with anything (as all his WAR comes from defense) or why Bryce Harper for that matter. But of course I wasn't talking about dumping Cain to the bench so it doesn't really matter I guess.

Cain had almost a 400 on base percentage at 32 and we are now convinced that after a slow couple of months to start the year that he is terrible now?

Come on.......I like Hiura......he's going to be up here for a long time......but fans have this habit of souring on players and then falling in love with them.....and then souring on them again......over and over again.

Davies looks like a D3 college pitcher today.

Davies is throwing batting practice today.

Has given up 9 runs in his last 12 innings.

On edit....make that 10 in his last 13 innings.

I'm a huge Davies fan, but some regression was probably in the cards. He's not an ace, but is likely a solid mid-rotation guy. Those guys are going to have outings where they don't look great.

And he just walked the pitcher.

On 4 pitches. He's got nothing.

I agree regression was inevitable but if this continues they have a real problem. It's to the point were we have zero effective starters right now.

Or maybe a guy doesn’t need to bat at the top of the order constantly. No one said bench him and as I said even in his best years he isn’t a huge bat anyway. Any regression makes him average.

His walk rate last year was also a notable outlier compared to any other season...expecting that as the norm could be wrong.
