Final: DSL Mets2 2, DSL Brewers 1

DSL Brewers Box Score

A strong pitching effort goes for naught as the Brewers' offense only manages to scratch across one run despite 6 hits, 3 walks, and 4 Mets errors. 16-year-old Brailin Rodriguez, who is the 2nd-youngest player in the organization, started and worked 4 solid innings, allowing 2 runs. Alis Atagua and Joandris Tolentino worked 2 scoreless innings of relief each.

Leadoff man Eduarqui Fernandez paced the offense with 2 singles and a walk. Heretofore struggling Erys Bautista collected two singles for the first multi-hit game of his career.

Final: AZL Dodgers1 12, AZL Brewers Blue 6

AZL Brewers Blue Box Score

The Brewers took a 4-3 lead after one inning, but a withering Dodgers attack (including 25th overall pick Kody Hoese, who is in the AZL for some reason) resulted in inaugural heartbreak for the Blues. CF Arbert Cipion, who struggled mightily at the plate last year after being picked in the 9th round, lead the offense with 3 hits including a triple. Aussie catcher Alex Hall, 17-year-old Venezuelan 3B Luis Silva, and recent 29th round and opening day DH Jackie Urbaez all added two hits.

Blue pitching had its issues, but 2018 DSLer Moises Ruiz and 2019 21st round pick Eddy Tavarez each logged scoreless appearances.

In addition to Urbaez and Tavarez, we saw pro debuts from SS Cam Devanney (15th round), 1B YongKang Kou (China), and LF Terence Doston (22nd round).

Finally: it appears that Pablo Garabitos, drafted in the 25th round last year out of a Florida HS as an outfielder, is now a left-handed pitcher. Here's a scouting report from PBR on Garabitos the pitcher from 10/24/17:

The South Florida recruit, was up to 88 mph for Team MVP from a near over the top arm slot. It was his secondary pitches, however, that separate him, some, from his peers as he shows advanced feel for both a 1/7 curveball (72-74) as well as a changeup. Garabitos’ curveball features tight spin and multi-tier break, and his changeup is thrown with fastball hand speed and has late-fading action.

AZL Brewers Blue Game Log

A good start:

AZL Brewers Blue Bottom of the 1st

Arbert Cipion singles on a line drive to center fielder Ismael Alcantara.

Luis Silva singles on a ground ball to third baseman Kody Hoese. Arbert Cipion to 2nd.

Cam Devanney hit by pitch. Arbert Cipion to 3rd. Luis Silva to 2nd.

Alex Hall singles on a line drive to right fielder Danny Sinatro. Arbert Cipion scores. Luis Silva to 3rd. Cam Devanney to 2nd.

Anderson Melendez hit by pitch. Luis Silva scores. Cam Devanney to 3rd. Alex Hall to 2nd.

YongKang Kou strikes out swinging.

Jackie Urbaez hits a ground-rule double (1) on a fly ball to right field. Cam Devanney scores. Alex Hall scores. Anderson Melendez to 3rd.

Victor Vargas pops out to third baseman Kody Hoese.

Terence Doston strikes out swinging.

Final: AZL Brewers Gold 6, AZL Indians Red 4 (10 innings)

AZL Brewers Gold Box Score

An all-Latin lineup except for Larry Ernesto's injury replacement and an all-Latin pitching performance except for rehabbing starter Max Lazar lead the Golds to a win in the first game of existence. DH Aaron Familia had a rough go of it in his 2018 AZL campaign but came out firing on Monday, collecting 4 hits including a double and 3 RBI. LF Oswel Leones and SS Daniel Castillo each added two hits as well.

I mentioned Larry Ernesto had an injury replacement. After doubling to lead off the game, he was removed after advancing to third base with a "leg issue." His replacement was the game's only pro debut, 27th round pick Zane Zurbrugg.

Brayan Salaya pitched 5 innings in relief of Lazar, allowing 3 earned runs. He was backed up by AZL veteran Jose Parra and AZL newcomer Daniel Acosta. Acosta pitched a perfect 10th inning, which is notable because in 53 prior career appearances, all in the DSL, Acosta has managed to not walk a batter exactly 6 times. Make it 7 now.

AZL Brewers Gold Game Log

Also a good start, except for Larry:

AZL Brewers Gold Top of the 1st

Larry Ernesto doubles (1) on a ground ball to right fielder Cesar Idrogo.

Felix Valerio reaches on a throwing error by third baseman Jothson Flores. Larry Ernesto to 3rd.

Offensive Substitution: Pinch-runner Zane Zurbrugg replaces Larry Ernesto.

Oswel Leones singles on a fly ball to left fielder Marlin Made. Zane Zurbrugg scores. Felix Valerio to 2nd.

Jesus Chirinos flies out to center fielder Alexfri Planez. Felix Valerio to 3rd.

Oswel Leones steals (1) 2nd base.

Francis Florentino strikes out swinging. Felix Valerio scores. Oswel Leones to 3rd. Francis Florentino to 1st. Wild pitch by pitcher Brauny Munoz.

Francis Florentino caught stealing 2nd base, catcher Yainer Diaz to second baseman Andruw Monasterio.

Aaron Familia singles on a line drive to left fielder Marlin Made. Oswel Leones scores.

Victor Maria grounds into a force out, fielded by second baseman Andruw Monasterio. Aaron Familia out at 2nd.

Box: Rocky Mountain 11, Orem 10

Following up Sunday's slugfest filled with maddening numberswith another one here.

And MiLB.com, where are the inning-by-inning linescores for the Vibes boxes? Aarrgg, find that portion here. It was 5-4 Vibes after seven innings, then Pioneer League madness ensued again.

Four scoreless, hitless innings (four walks, but still impressive) for just-turned 22-year-old 2016 3rd round RHP Nash Walters, who missed all of 2017/2018. Walters sat out '17 trying to overcome an elbow strain, but then underwent Tommy John surgery that September.

RHP Karsen Lindell's return to the organization did not go swimmingly.

Defense was abysmal, six errors and a passed ball.

Vibes hurlers combined to walk another 14 batters, yet here we are discussing another victory.

Safe to say this was catcher Luis Avalo's best game as a pro. Of course, the Brewers placed he and 2B Luis Avila on the same Maryvale squad, and here they line up back-to-back.

Bryan Torres on base all five times, and Antonio Pinero drives in four.
