2019-06-17: Brewers (Chacín) at Padres (Lucchesi) [Brewers lose, 2-0]

Eye Black

Actually, Freddy really only has one pitch. That curveball is so erratic and thrown so rarely ...

19 pct of the time isn't really that rare.

And for a point of reference, it's been better than any of Woody's secondary pitches.

But he's 23 years old and was advanced rather quickly through the upper levels, so I'd be a bit more surprised if it WASN'T erratic.

His change is erratic and needs work, but it only needs to be ~average if he's locating the fastball.

Alright. I guess it's a 9th inning rally. Braun, Grandal, Moose, Perez, Aguilar sounds like more than 2 runs, anyway.

Sure be nice to see vintage Aguilar knock one out to RF after Moose walks and Perez gets a seeing eye single.

Or Moose will hit a dribbler out in front of the plate. Oh well.

We'll get 'em tomorrow.

Perhaps they should just put Freddy in the pen and leave him there?

It's a no-brainer! He's only got two pitches, after all.

So did Ben Sheets. Most starters throw 2 pitches about 90+ pct of the time.

There's no reason to pigeon hole him into either role right now.

Sheets' two pitches were plus though and he had great control and command. Peralta doesn't have any of that.

As far as most starters throw two pitches 90+% of the time. The only qualified starters that have those types of numbers this year are Davies and Hendricks, two changeup specialists. Everyone else is like a 50/30/20 split or a 60/20/20.

Chacin not looking nearly as good as Miley this year. If we were only going to keep one of those guys (for reasons I don't fully understand), we picked the wrong one ... at least, for this season.

This is also very much a hindsight is 20/20 argument. Yeah, Miley pitched very well for the Brewers last year, but you forget that he also missed a good chunk of the season with two DL stints. Chacin was good and dependable all season. There would be no reason whatsoever to trade or otherwise get rid of a pitcher coming off the year he did.

Yes, Chacin, Freddy and Burns have been disappointing so I hope Stearns addresses starting pitching sooner rather than later. Our bullpen will be burned out my the Independence Day at the rate we are going...
