Chacin not looking nearly as good as Miley this year. If we were only going to keep one of those guys (for reasons I don't fully understand), we picked the wrong one ... at least, for this season.

Chacin was on a two-year contract. Wasn’t really about keeping one or the other.

"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

That's not how contracts work.

I hear ya', but trades are always an option, too. Chacin's trade value will never be higher than it was after last season. I'm not upset with David Stearns about keeping Chacin, necessarily. I would have expected far better from Chacin this season, too. What I am disappointed about, though, is letting Miley go. That's a head-scratcher to me.

I'm sure they didn't expect Peralta to be a powder keg and Burnes to be a gas can either. Especially Burnes. They put a lot on those two, and they have been major disappointments. I agree on Miley, but it was never about keeping either Miley or Chacin. Chacin pitched like a solid #2 on a playoff team last year. He too has been a big disappointment this year.

No guarantees that Miley even wanted to come back.

This is also very much a hindsight is 20/20 argument. Yeah, Miley pitched very well for the Brewers last year, but you forget that he also missed a good chunk of the season with two DL stints. Chacin was good and dependable all season. There would be no reason whatsoever to trade or otherwise get rid of a pitcher coming off the year he did.

Teams are obviously figuring out that lining up their lefties for the Brewers is a winning formula.

The Padres have been scoring a ton of runs lately and will provide a big challenge for the Brewers fatigued pitching staff.

We are currently 10-10 vs LH starters this season, so it has been a break even strategy at best for opposing teams to this point.

For the season we have actually hit LHP (.803 OPS) better than RHP (.782).

The Padres just scored 44 runs in four games at Coors Field (11 R/G), in the sixteen games before that they scored 59 runs (3.69 R/G), well below their season average of 4.38 R/G.

If the Brewers are 10-10 against LH starters and 30-21 against RH starters that would suggest that starting lefties is a good percentage move. The “winning” strategy doesn’t have to be better than a 50-50 proposition, just significantly better than the alternatives. For example, I would consider sending Christian Yelich to the plate instead of Travis Shaw to be a winning strategy even though Yelich doesn’t hit .500.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

This is looking like another example of the Brewers offense having trouble in a rough home run environment. Their well hit fly balls are turning into cans of corn.

When did this happen before?

Aguilar getting close to passing Cain in OPS. Ish.

Machado and his stupid launch angle swing.
