Boy did Jesus need that.

I know it's only one hit but with the work he has put into his swing over the past month or so, making adjustments, etc. one hit like that can change the confidence trajectory for him. That could be a huge, huge home run.

He hit two or three home runs in a span of two games not too long ago and it didn't seem to help, but you never know.

How much mediocre pitching can one team throw out in one series? Unbelievable.

That depends on who you consider mediocre.

I think Davies (5 IP), Houser (2 IP) & Guerra (1 IP) have been better than mediocre this year.

That leaves Nelson (4 IP), Claudio (1.2 IP), Burnes (1.1 IP) Anderson (4 IP) & Albers (2 IP) as mediocre or worse.

13/21 = about 62% mediocre pitching.

If we use non mediocre pitchers for the remaining 4 (hopefully) innings it will be 13/25 or 52% mediocre pitching in the series.

We've seen that pattern with Shaw as well. Hopefully this one turns our differently.

but it's not like every guy suddenly forgot every piece of advice he gave

Runner on 3rd nobody out, Thames pops up and Perez strikes out on 3 pitches. Awesome.

Also, Craig, maybe let your pinch hitter know he's coming into the game before his AB actually arrives?

Counsell not giving Perez the heads up on a pinch hit is pretty ridiculous.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

Yeah, I mean you knew a lefty was on the mound, and you knew Shaw was coming up. Really no excuse for that. It's not a good look, especially when he comes in cold and strikes out on 3 pitches.

Doesn't Perez have to be aware of the possibility he is going to pinch-hit this inning? Players gotta' stay prepared, too, don't they?

Yah that is a pretty awkward situation to be put in. You are suddenly rushing to get everything real quick...let alone take a deep breath, focus, and get some practice swing in.

Talk about throwing Perez under the bus.

I agree to some extent. But Shaw was on deck like he was going to hit and it looked like once Thames popped out CC made the call for Perez.

Shaw was the #7 hitter up with 1 out. Even if Perez didn't hit for him, you'd think he'd already be getting up and ready to hit in the #9 spot. It was odd anyway.

As the season progresses I certainly won’t look back on this Giants series fondly, but I feel a lot better with Hader on the mound to close it out. In the grand scheme of things a loss today isn’t going to sink the Brewers season, but it sure seems important to salvage something from this series after losing a pair of winnable games.
Not just “at Night” anymore.
