2019-06-15: Brewers (Nelson) at Giants (Bumgarner) [Brewers lose, 8-7]

It's one thing to get beat by a team that just played better than you that day. It's quite another to literally give a win away. Playoff teams don't do that.

Did not expect the Giants to have 25 hits and 13 runs after the first two games of this series.

 

Hard not to be incredibly disappointed with today’s loss.

 

It is also the first time I can remember this year where having Hader as the 8th-9th inning closer may have cost the Brewers a game versus their usage last year of deploying him an inning earlier. Easy to say in hindsight, but I believe if Hader comes in to start the 7th inning the Brewers win the game.

What's the plan with Nelson? Obviously it's only two starts but dude looks rough. Freddy is not ready. Gio still out. This team needs three starters and four relievers and we sho6be ready to roll.

 

Plan for Nelson: Bullpen

 

Imo, stamina’s the main issue, first 40-50 pitches > 92-93 decent command.

 

50-60 pitches > 90-91 wild

 

Bullpen needs another 2-3 inning pitcher, I think he’d be a real weapon.

Brewers are 30th out of 32 teams in percent of quality starts at 26 percent.

 

On edit. They finished last year 28th at 31% so not that big of a change.

Hard to get on Counsell when we don't know how much he has to say about the roster but if he isn't screaming for some help I would be shocked. Peralta is clearly a bullpen guy. Nelson right now looks like a bullpen guy. Burnes is a bullpen guy. Why not give Houser a shot in the rotation? Get rid of Claudio and Barnes. Pick up Cody Allen and see if you can salvage him.

I’d like to see Wilkerson given a chance to start, with Houser, Nelson in the pen, Burnes and Peralta in AAA stretched and mixing pitches. Barnes down, Smith up. So:

Most everyone was cautious with a Nelson return to the roster and we now see why. DS has to get both starting pitching as well as a reliever imo
