I always wondered if we'd see Andrews play OF in a pinch. I remember some teams liked him more as a CF prospect. I always like seeing hitters dabble with pitching, or vice versa, as a way of increasing our likelihood of getting a return on investment. Nothing was weirder though than Josh Romanski, though. Looks like he's still playing independent ball, too.

Wow, nice A+ debut, Mr Ashby
"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

Great starts for Ashby/File! But buried behind those guys... how about Freisis Adames tonight?

6 IP 3 H 0 ER 1 BB 7 K

Win

I personally haven't seen many Adames highlights, but his career #'s are pretty intriguing. Anyone here watched any of his TRats outings so far this year/have a scouting report?

Am I seeing correctly that the system's starting pitchers combined to give up three runs and two of those were from the coop team? That is pretty darned good. It's nice how Ashby is asserting himself lately. With Brown reverting to his college control, Ashby might be the top arm in the system right now.

"Dylan File allowed just one hit over five shutout frames, walked just one hitter, and struck out five in his Double-A debut but did not factor into the decision."

Silva Sends Micro Brews to 1-0 Victory with Walk-Off Single

Aaron Ashby allowed just one hit and struck out eight over seven scoreless in his Carolina debut

"Ashby started and was brilliant in what was his first start with Carolina. He started the game with eight straight outs before allowing a double to Yeyson Yrizarri with two outs in the second. Ashby then went on to retire the next 13 batters while pitching through the seventh. He ended up allowing just the one hit and one base runner while facing one over the minimum over seven scoreless in his debut."

Box: DSL Cubs #2 Squad 6, DSL Brewers 5

Crew was up 5-0 after six innings. Five frames of one-hit ball from 19-year-old 2nd year Dominican RHP Wellington Nunez. Each of the three hurlers who followed were victimized for two runs apiece, all earned.

The Brewers only managed four hits all game, so their improbable one-hit, five-run 6th inning stands as the obvious place to highlight --

DSL Brewers Top of the 6th

Sebastian Burciaga hit by pitch.

Eduarqui Fernandez pops out to third baseman Orlando Zapata.

Eduardo Garcia walks. Sebastian Burciaga to 2nd.

Branlyn Jaraba walks. Sebastian Burciaga to 3rd. Eduardo Garcia to 2nd.

Jesus Parra hit by pitch. Sebastian Burciaga scores. Eduardo Garcia to 3rd. Branlyn Jaraba to 2nd.

Juan Frias pops out to second baseman Flemin Bautista.

Erys Bautista walks. Eduardo Garcia scores. Branlyn Jaraba to 3rd. Jesus Parra to 2nd.

Rafael Martinez triples (3) on a line drive to right fielder Samuel Duarte. Branlyn Jaraba scores. Jesus Parra scores. Erys Bautista scores.

Farlyn Manon walks.

Pitching Change: Marcos Encarnacion replaces Carlos Paula.

Wild pitch by pitcher Marcos Encarnacion. Farlyn Manon to 2nd.

Sebastian Burciaga flies out to left fielder Felix Stevens.

Box: DSL Dodgers "Shoemaker" Squad 8, DSL Brewers/Indians 7

Nine losses in a row...

Four errors lead to three unearned runs, that didn't help. Three of the miscues by Brewer farmhands.

More early success for 3rd year pro, 19-year-old 1B Elian Gonzalez, he's on to something.

Eight K's in four innings for rookie 17-year-old Dominican RH starter Edinson Mejia, just his 2nd outing (3 R, 2 ER).

What was so impressive about Ashby was he really showed a full starters repertoire of 4 pitches that he could throw in any count.

It looks like he throws a knuckle curve like Knebel, and he throws another breaking ball that has a sharper but smaller break.

Then you add in the fact that as the game went on he threw his changeup a lot and Winston Salem really couldn't do anything with it. I counted 3 or 4 pop ups on his changeups in the late innings and of course got a couple strikeouts on it throughout the start.

It is one start and will be fun to monitor if he really is harnessing his command that he showed improvement on in May at Wisconsin.

6.2 BB/per 9 in April at Wisconsin

vs.

2.7 BB/per 9 in May at Wisconsin
