2019 Draft Pick Discussion, Rounds 6-20

Community Moderator
Six college lefties in the first 12 picks. I'm sensing a theme ... ;)

They also traded away a draft pick for LHP Alex Claudio, so I am counting it as seven LHP added to the organization via this year's draft so far.

One emphasis early on with the current regime was adding left handed bats, and now it seems like they want to build up the reserves with more more southpaws.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

With the 613rd overall pick in the 2019 #MLBDraft, the Milwaukee #Brewers select Myles Austin, SS, Westlake HS (GA).

Austin has huge raw power from the right side and a lot of bat speed, impressive for a high school senior. A 6-foot-3, 185-pound shortstop, his body is still a little ahead of his hitting, as his swing can be long at times leaving him prone to swings-and-misses. But he has exciting potential at the plate. The Georgia native is an Alabama commit for next year. An average runner, he projects as an outfielder or third baseman.

Myles Austin was a pre-season top 50 kid for me, struggled to hit consistently enough but the athleitc tools and raw power are there, tough sign this late #Brewers

Looking back at 2016 draft to see what the kids who went unsigned & see how they are doing.

3B Louie Crow was moved to mound at San Diego & has pretty rough outside of freshman year. Undrafted as of now.

SP Jared Horn drafted in 20th round went on to be California’s Ace & was drafted in 7th round. Sadly he was in an accident a year or two ago where he was sole survivor losing his father.

SP Brennan Price 29th pick signed as a udfa next year with Blue Jays & is currently out of baseball. He was 6’9 265.

40th round RHP Kyle Serrano was drafted 10th in 17’ and at 23 is going to 3rd year of rookie ball.

Hard to believe only 4 of 41 picks went unsigned!

Proud member since 2003 (geez ha I was 14 then)

I was just looking at that this morning....and googling some of those guys. Only 4 is amazing compared to last year where 20 of the last 30 picks didnt sign.

what about the year where we were ultra aggressive and took a bunch of high profile HS kids, but none signed. Was that 2011 with Rodon?

I think that was 2015 with Johnathan India (1st round 2018), Tristan Beck (4th round 2018), Nolan Kingham (12th round 2018), and Donny Everett (went to Vandy and sadly drowned).

Edit: Also looks like they drafted Charlie Donovan, who went on to Michigan and also sadly passed away https://www.prepbaseballreport.com/news/IL/In-Memory-Of-Charlie-Donovan-One-of-Illinois-All-Time-Greats-7349628510

#Brewers pick the first @UVUBaseball player. Paxton Schultz was 3-17 in his college career, but he was on bad team, his ERA improved each year and he's always struck out batters (207 K in 209 IP.)

Yes, 2011 with Rondon. Same year they took Jungman and Bradley. Didn't look to see where the other HS kids ended up going after Rondon was picked 3rd overall a few years after the Brewers took him in the 16th round, but I know at least one was picked in the 5th round.
