2019 Draft Pick Discussion, Rounds 6-20

I'm satisfied with the lefty pitchers, the two catchers, and the switch hitting left-fielder first baseman. In today's game speed without power doesn't play that well and they have plenty of RH relief pitcher prospects.

Many picks remain but having followed all the Brewers drafts over the years this one is uninspiring.

I'm sure the Brewers having the 2nd lowest bonus pool to sign their 2019 draft picks, has a lot to do the draft being uninspiring to some fans. Not much the Brewers can do about that. That's what happens when major league teams win lots of games, and go deep into the playoffs. Low bonus pool, usually means teams need to draft players who should be easily signed, with lower bonus demands.

I like the first two picks brewers can use arms and hopefully in the rotation. You had to expect the brewers to be low key drafting this low.Anyone to look out for tomorrow that the Crew can target.

They could draft Al Leiter's son, and give their whole bonus pool $ to sign him. :laughing

A good catching prospect is like gold and the Brewers have been accumulating catching every since Stearns took over. I don't think it's coincidence. They don't even have to reach the level of most hitters to hold great value.

Stearns has focused on catchers, middle infielders and center fielders. I get it and I hope it works out

I’m psyched beyond comprehension with these 9 picks, I just hope we can sign em all. If so, this could be a draft that helps our next 3 year window big time.
my only beef is the 3 catchers. It’s a small beef as you can never have enough and I would be surprised if all 3 stay there. Really excited about the pitching we are adding and the possibility of getting through the system quickly.

remember when we had two studs? Kade Johnson and Jason Belcher? Jonathon Lucroy and Angel Salome? we've had poor success with catchers, so I'd guess we need 10-20 catchers drafted to create 1 big leaguer. Besides Lucroy, we hit on Eric Fryer, but that's it. I guess Tim Dillard in a weird sense

doesn't work that way. If they failed to sign picks in the top 10 rounds, that money both disappears from our bonus pool and limits the amount we can go over the pool without penalty

It’s a joke because Leiter wanted over 4 million which is about what our bonus pool is.

I have meetings most of the day and a kindergarten graduation to go to this afternoon, so signing thread updates are going to be sporadic.

Man, I had you pegged as a little older than that. ;)

Seriously, thanks for all that you contribute to this forum and enjoy the time with your family as time goes fast. My oldest graduated from HS on Saturday and it seems like just yesterday that I was going to his kindergarten graduation.

Researching him, found it interesting that he is numb on the right side of his body after having a stroke as a baby. Parents were told that he’d mostly likely have a limp right arm and drag his right foot due to it. He ended up becoming the star high school basketball & baseball play, JUCO All American, and now 11th round pick!

13 (403): @Brewers select Vanderbilt (TN) P Jackson Gillis. https://www.mlb.com/draft/tracker/drafted/team/brewers … #MLBDraft

Gillis established himself as one of Vanderbilt's go-to relievers last season, but has been used sparingly in 2019. The left-hander has shown a fastball that sits at 92-95 mph and a solid curveball in the past. Gillis has also earned comparisons to former Vanderbilt pitcher Ben Bowden, who was drafted by the Rockies in the second round in 2016 and has pitched well for their Double-A Hartford affiliate this season.

Vandy freshman lefty Jackson Gillis is one of the exciting young building blocks on this roster. Comes in pumping gas, strands bases loaded.

Vanderbilt lefthander Jackson Gillis worked a scoreless 7th, extreme arm speed from slinger low 3/4, 90-94 with flashes of life, frisbee slider in mid-70’s, blew guys away up in the zone with FB when he found delivery repeatability. #VandyBoys

#Brewers 14th pick Paxton Schultz (Utah Valley) boosted his stock with solid start in WAC tourney. Was projected as a late Day 3 pick before then. Mid-90s FB.
