Hiura giveth, Hiura taketh away. The scouting reports on him are pretty much right on. He can hit, but is not, and likely never will be a gifted defender. The shifts and having Arcia next to him mitigate it some, but they can't on plays like that. It's just something we're going to have to deal with as Brewer fans from him ... until the DH comes to the NL.

Most of his mistakes, like the throw tonight, are a product of a rookie trying to rush or make something happen that isn't there. He's made some pretty good plays as well. He isn't going to win a gold glove but he will be a solid 2B.

It seems like he has the most issues when he feels his throw needs to be rushed.

Game over. Wow. This team is tough to watch night to night. You never know what you are going to get pitching wise. Hitting wise. Defense. Base running is horrendous. Frustrating team. Oakland wins 10 straight. Brewers lucky to win 3 in a row with this crew.

I don't think the issue is the offense. I think you could visit a board for just about any team and they would complain about offensive consistency. The offense scores enough runs most every night. We just don't have the arm talent to sustain success.

I agree with you on this. Consistency begins and ends with the pitching. We don't have enough.

Of course it’s the offense, just like it was the offense last year. Home runs or nothing. The story of this team. Another non-massive K hitter or two will change that. Maybe Shaw will mash again. Then it’s just one.

Pitching is stronger, not great but good, with the potential to get better. Chacín is the only horrible starter, soon to be replaced by Nelson. Bullpen can hold a lead, and will get better.

But a team that can’t move runners, sac fly to get run in from third, that the only way they score is from the home run, will die in the playoffs from good pitching shutting them down again.

There is literally nothing about that post that I agree with but you're entitled to your opinion.

1st I thought you started arguing with yourself and I was amused.

2nd It's absolutely frustrating but they average 4.98 runs per game coming into tonight. That's 12th best in the game and .4 runs more per game than last year.

Last years pitchers 3.65 this years 4.45. Pitching is .8 worse. If this team was scoring 4.98 runs per game last year they'd have blown the Cubs away as +1.33 is elite and is an easy 100 win team.

Chacin had put four pretty decent outings in a row together, but now the last two times out....

Looks like more pitching decisions could be coming soon and Burnes and Chacin are guys #1 and #2 that have to be looked at. At least Claudio did a nice job covering the last two innings.

Home runs! Home runs!

They lead the NL in ^

Like I already said TOO HOME RUN RELIANT. If they no homer they no win

And in the playoffs it’s even worse, pitching gets better, homers go down even more. Need to make contact a little more often, move runners, manufacture a run here and there.

Runs per game misleading with this home run hitting team. They’re on pace for 270 home runs! They should be averaging 5.6 runs.

Last in getting runs in from 3B with less than 2 out. Worst in baseball with the bases loaded. Worst in base ball at moving runners over. That’s the offensive offense that we have, out side of hitting lots of homers.

Yeah, Keston's not gonna be the one to give way when Shaw comes back up!

I really hope you are correct.

For sure. When's the last time anyone ever sent down a guy with an .882 OPS?

If there is any question about his super two status, he will go down.

Yes pitching giving up .80 more rpg. But it was much higher than that during the great experiment(Burnes Peralta) in rotation. Since that was scrapped and gio signed, pitching better. Like I said better, NOT GREAT.

Wilkerson dominating again in AAA, Smith pitching well, Houser pitching well, there’s more options moving forward besides Nelson.

Offense irritating because it’s a mindset to move runners.

The way they are giving Shaw the promotion regardless of what he's doing makes me worry they'll demote him regardless as well.

2015 Astros became a team of contention.

2016 they missed the playoffs

2017 they won the WS

I believe in patterns and there's a lot of stuff their doing this year that seems boldly optimistic.

Wilkerson era now 0.46

Shaw found out he’s leaving purgatory:

3 pa 2 hits and a walk and get this > a SB!

The Shaw we need doesn't hit 7 singles 0 XBH to get to .250 BA in AAA.

Agree, but this team needs 2018 Travis Shaw. Baby steps.

Or 880 OPS Hiura.

I honestly expected Hiura to be a Ben Gamel level hitter at 2b to start his major league career. He's blowing that out of the water. Team has scored 5.7 runs per game when he batted more than 2 times. Its sample size but Shaw's one of the crippling black holes of the first 50 games. They seem eager to get back to that.

Games 1-43... 4.72

Games 44-58...5.66
