Bucks off-season thread (non-draft)

coolhandluke121

We don't know if Mirotic would have returned, Barcelona could have matched any offer and it seems he wanted to play over in Europe. Also, keep in mind Giannis felt strongly about having Middleton back. I don't like it either, but I think Horst did an amazing job with the cards he had to play.

All I know is I don't want to re-live this the next few years whenever Middleton is less than stellar. The decision was made, mostly made sense at the time, and I'm looking forward not back. (Just remind me I said this when I go off on Middleton myself one day.)

The Jazz made him an offer of 45 over 3 years and he chose to go back to Barcelona.

I don't think anyone liked what Middleton got paid, but he was hardly the only borderline all-star player to get a massive deal. Tobias Harris got a slightly larger deal. We overpaid to keep the second best player on the team under contract a year before Giannis is likely to make up his mind on an extension.

And I agree, Horst did an incredible job making up for the players we lost while also adding a lottery ticket in Bender and a couple of draft picks that may pay off in the future.

Middleton just needs to up his game. His potential is not like Giannis, but he can still improve. Shot selection leads to higher field goal percentage, better defense leads to worse opponent field goal percentage, boxing out more rebounds (hopefully offensive rebounds) etc. Little things like this can make him a much better player.

I don't think there was ever a decision of "Keep Mirotic" or "not keep Mirotic". LIke ontheblack said, the Jazz made him an offer of 3/45 and he turned it down to play in Europe. Could the Bucks have beat that offer, and would it have mattered to him? Maybe, Probably, but I don't know how much more than that Mirotic is worth, especially when it costs you an opportunity to keep Middleton, who by all accounts is THE GUY Giannis wants to play with. Everyone knows that these moves don't happen in a vacuum.

Yea, 0% chance he will be in the rotation. He may get to play garbage minutes once in a while, that's it. If he plays more that that, it tells me Giannis is getting TOO involved. Having his brother at the end of the bench is fine, but if he actually plays that's a problem.

I don't think there's much room in Middleton's game to improve. His shot selection is pretty much baked in with Bud wanting him to take more 3's, so he becomes more of a catch and shoot type guy when Giannis is driving.

His defense is good and always has been, but he doesn't have great athleticism, so I can't see him really getting a great deal better there.

I don't watch how often he gets a body on someone on a miss, perhaps there's room there.

But he's a guy who's just pretty good at everything and not great at anything. The only area I can really see him improving would be his shot..and then it's pretty much going to be his 3 point shooting just given the system. If he can go back to knocking down 40 pct of his 3's and just continue to be the player he's been, I think that's probably a best-case scenario with him. He's one of the few guys on the team who doesn't have many ceilings left.

And that's why it kinda sucked that he got paid so much, but I didn't really see an alternative. It's just an imperfect situation and we were forced due to where Giannis is in his career to pay him a ton or else some other team was going to do it.

It's like Kemba in Charolette. Really nice player, but not worth paying if he's your best player as your upside is but so high. If you have another superstar(or even a few potential superstars as the Celtics now have in Tatum and Brown) then it makes sense.

It's obvious with the Bender signings and demand picks back for Brogdon that while Horst is focused primarily on this year, he's also exploring other avenues in which he may be able to acquire a player who will become that legitimate #2 option behind Giannis. I know everyone's just worried about a single title...and that's kinda the first step, but if you get Giannis for 10-15 years, you need to win multiple titles. You need to find a way to surround him with another elite player.

Being benched for some playoff games had to have hurt. Probably worth being slightly less rich in order to be a superstar in a lesser league than a #4 on an NBA team.

Maybe that's it. You look at his playoff stats and I'm sure others were like me and focused on last years stats and thought he could be a really clutch player for us, but he's been bad now in 3 of 4 playoff runs.

But maybe he just wanted to play at home, and given that he's making close to what he'd be making in the NBA, maybe that was good enough for him. I'd bet we see him again in the NBA and he probably has something in his contract about being able to leave to go back to the NBA at some point. But perhaps he has a sick family member or his fiance/wife wanted to live in Spain. I love Milwaukee, but Barcelona is a bit nicer place to live than Milwaukee or the Suburbs of Milwaukee. Especially if you're wealthy.

Either way, he clearly wanted to go back home since he didn't even sit around and listen to all the offers(presumably since he signed rather quickly). So he was likely never an option at any reasonable price.

#1 bucks needed cheap help off of the bench

#2 makes giannis happy before he has a super max in-front of him.

only 2 reasons he is on the team.

I think your two reasons are really just 1. I don't think he's gonna provide any cheap help for them. I think Giannis is just gonna be thrilled having his brother with him.

But, this is apparently all moot. I was listening to Jim Rome today on the radio(I don't know why, I never listen to his show and he had someone filling in for him today, but not even a little bit of a fan) but I learned two things that were REALLY interesting.

A-Tom Brady's new contract means that he's going to be playing elsewhere next year, probably in Oakland because he happens to be from California. And that would be the Pats doing if they "only" go 12-4 and don't win a Super Bowl. The Pats would be the ones who'd force out Tom Brady because his extension doesn't have guaranteed money.

B-Giannis is probably going to sign with the Raptors. Why? It's an international city.

This guy also conceded he'd never met either person or had no contacts close to either person, but still feels comfortable stating these things as matter of factually as one would say...the Raiders are moving to Las Vegas.

Most of this post would have been better served in the "what's bugging you" category, but I find it hilarious that

I disagree. Anybody can get better at shooting, it is just about practice and then in games, shot selection. His defense is good, but there are ways to be smarter not quicker to improve it. I do agree he does not have a whole lot of room to improve. I do think he can improve a little in all areas of his game to become a more complete player and a better number 2 next to GA.

Here we go with this crap

I really chalk this up to little more than trolling at this point.

The absolute absurdity that you can tell what pct a player body fat is from having really good eyesight or whatever other reasons are just beyond ridiculous. But it's becoming a strange obsession at this point.

Brogdon doesn't seem to be having the same luck losing weight.

Wow, unbelievable. It's going to be real interesting to see what you guys say when Khris actually comes out and says he slimmed down a little. It takes a special kind of person to look at that picture and still insist that he doesn't have any more tone and definition than he did several months ago.

Incredibly disappointing and inappropriate for a mod to be partaking of that sort of sarcasm too. You know when you were about to argue about the collective bargaining agreement and the payroll situation, but then you stopped yourself because you admitted you didn't know much about it and didn't want to learn? You should do that now too.

No Luke, it's not going to be interesting when Khris comes back into camp and says he's "in the best shape of his life." That's just background noise for athletes.

I'm 100 pct curious, which arm do you look at in this video taken across the court? Because the one he's dribbling with doesn't look any different in this video that's shot from about 50 feet away.

And that IS how you claim to be able to really see the nuances that the rest of us amateur's are unable to see, right?

But here's the most important part. Here's the #1 thing that you're just completely missing. Nobody else cares. Nobody else wants to spend time going over and over and over pictures of these athletes trying to ascertain if they're at 12.5 pct body fat at the moment or if they're at 13 pct body fat based on how one picture makes them look and how you were right about Michael Redd in 2005. The whole conversation is just a bizarre obsession and you take these generic comments, best I've ever felt, the best shape of my life, I spent the off-season working on my diet, I've cut out red meat and dairy, etc....etc...etc.. that every athlete makes and you use them as the backbone of an argument you're pretty much having with yourself at this point.

Dude, you need to chill out. You literally said you had super vision (or something to that effect). The fact that you think you "know" more about visual weight loss is astounding. If you can't see how ridiculous that is then I don't know what to tell you. I suggest you drop the topic of conversation particularly since you have no sense of humor at all about it.
