Specifically noting his comment that the Dbacks are viewed as "aggressive sellers". I wouldn't take this to mean they plan on giving anyone away, but you can probably officially start looking at all rental pieces and 1+ year players as legitimately on the table.

Yea you now have him to come in for Aguilar later in the game when the leftys go out, then you have him to start vs the righty, then have him for the DH games. It was either get this extra bat up just in case you need him it this series or bring up a garbage time reliever. Seems an easy choice.

We will probably buy, but people expecting a huge splash will be disappointed. We just don't have the trade capital without moving Hiura and he's too important to our MLB team now.

It will be the usual, cheap rental or two. Probably one or two arms, maybe a SS.

I agree and it’s what should happen.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

Go get lugo and Giles and call it a day

They really need at least one starter..at this point I'm on board with Robbie Ray, Zach Wheeler or Mike Minor(or two of 3).

As long as you have reasonable expectations.

Tanner Roark. It just makes a lot of sense. Reds are finished, Roark is a free agent to be. Very quietly has put up a 2.0 war, 4.15 FIP. Solid production without the pizzaz of Stroman, Bumgarner, Syndergaard etc.

I'm with you on Roark. I was a Wheeler fan but the shoulder stuff scares me. Roark is solid and it's hard for me to believe he'd be valued much over 1 WAR for just a two-month stretch. He also gets paid a pretty fair amount. He could fall in that gap where the big market teams just don't think he's attractive enough and the small market teams might not want to pay him the 3+ million he's still due this year. Not crazy to think that a team might be able to get him for just a couple fringe prospects.

I mean, don't get me wrong, I understand the appeal, he just doesn't really move the needle that much IMO. Better than Chacin?? Absolutely. Solid?? Sure, but not a major needle mover. I'd be fine with him as a fill in for Chacin the rest of the year, but not as their biggest piece.

Not all deadlines are created equal & this year there just aren't that many true needle movers on the market. Given other teams have more resources to offer, I don't see us getting one of the few available.

At the same time, given our rotation situation Roark moves the needle from replacement level to MLB average, which is considerable & also allows Houser to maybe stay in the pen as an added bonus.

I'll say the same thing I said three weeks ago...my best guess is Stearns & company will do the same thing they did last deadline & deal prospects they view as superfluous for minor upgrades around the margins.

This is a really good, sound idea. I like it because I don't think he costs us a guy we really value and he's been a pretty solid pitcher for a while. He can also swing the bat a little bit.

This actually isn't that unreasonable. Especially if the baseline is not even considering a hypothetical trade of Hader(or Yelich for that matter) to the Pads for Tatis, Gore, Paddack and Mejia...

Last night I watched a little of the Cubs broadcast after the game. My goodness, the broadcasters calling for bullpen help... and they need bats after getting only four hits if they are going to beat the teams behind them... was worse than this thread.

Stroman to the Mets per Morosi.

How bad teams stay bad

And they'll trade Thor. This was thrown out there and it just sounded like the dumbest possible move. Unless they've decided to just give up on the whole winning thing and try to simply stop the Yankees from winning.
