2019-05-28: Brewers (Davies) at Twins (Smeltzer) [Brewers lose, 5-3 — Crew strands 3 leadoff extra base hits and struggles against lefty starter making MLB debut; Davies pitches 6 scoreless innings]

Eye Black
Easy read as a player. Catch, your u go back and tag. Drops or off the wall, you score. Go about a quarter of the way to third and simply watch the play.

Really?

Yep. Was it even close to a drop?

Yes.

On top of that, the 2B ump didn’t make any call. It was the 1B ump who made the call and I can’t imagine he’s where Braun can see him since he’s looking to Center. On top of the Moustakas is heading to 2nd and it looks like he thinks he has a double. It was anything but obvious and not as simple as you’re making it.

I thought it was close enough that he would need the umpire to make a timely and clear call and go off of his cue to be sure either way.

75 yards away with his back to Braun ... yeah, the ump has to help there. Braun had a horrible view of what was happening being between 2nd and 3rd, and was hung out to dry. No other way to look at it.

Exactly. It’s easy for us to see on TV, with a zoomed in replay.

"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

Guy making his MLB debut against us tonight? We’re getting shut out.

Also, you know that in this guy’s next start that he’s going to get shelled and maybe only pitch like three innings. Happens every time when the Brewers face guys making their debut. Now, when we face a future hall of famer, we actually have a chance.

Even with zoomed in replay, I had to watch it a couple times to truly see what happened. Imagine trying to make the determination in real time, while running the bases, with a 230 pound 3rd baseman is bearing down on you. No matter how much we may not think so at times, baseball is hard.

I always hate it when the Brewers face a pitcher making an MLB debut because they never seem to do anything with them.

That having been said, if this game were at Miller Park they’d probably have 3 home runs and the score would be about 6-5.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

I think it’s over 100 yards. 3b to deep rightcenter should be at least 300 feet. Try looking for a detail from one endzone to the other

I don’t know if there are stats somewhere, but a lot of guys making their debut have good success. We have had our fair share. Guerra and Fiers were like dang aces when we brought them up.

Taylor Jungmann. Fiers. Cal Eldred was unhittable in 92. Steve Woodard had an amazing debut against Roger Clemens.

Taylor Jungmann I recall being awesome for a few weeks.

Maybe we should just start recycling these AAAA starters with no MLB experience and calling them up for a start or two, DFA them and move onto the next one.

Did a quick distance on google earth. 3B to RC at Miller Park is 350 feet. So yah he was probably at least 100 yards away from the catch.

Can’t forget the legend of Chris Saenz.
