Why can't Wisconsin sports fans have nice things?

adambr2

I always felt even in advance that that Bills road game had a loss all over it. I actually remember telling a buddy of mine weeks in advance that I thought we would beat the Patriots at Lambeau and then lose in Buffalo because he thought that was backwards.

I remember feeling confident that we would surprise the Pats(and we may have if not for an OL returning a kick to our ~5). Don't know that I thought Buffalo would be a threat at that time.

We did beat the Pats in '14. You're thinking of '10. '14 was a great game too.

That Pats game in '14 is in my personal top 2 football games attended in-person. Lambeau was absolutely electric.

I was at that Pats game in '10. No Rodgers, Woodson dropped a certain pick six, the aforementioned squib kick returned by a lineman....and Packers still got all the way down inside the 20 I believe with a chance to win at the end. Great game.

Yeah, I even went and looked up the game in '14 and it still doesn't ring a bell. I might have gone to it. Honestly games that I go to I don't remember the specifics as well as the games I watch at home.

The game in 2010 was especially memorable to me. Flynn playing and really needing that game(though Jackson's return in the Eagles-Giants game did make it so we could lose that one).

I guess it wasn't just the game, but everything surrounding it. Coughlin losing his mind on that punter, the Packers run...etc...etc...

I think why I remember the '14 game is because we converted a 3rd down late in the game to seal it and Tom Brady went wild dropping F-bombs on the sideline.

The game Brady started screaming and dropping F-Bombs on the sideline? Huh...that seems like just about every game I've seen him play. But when he does it, he's "competitive," not a diva...like Rodgers.

Yep.... And people wonder why we expect the worst in the big games.

We can pretty much throw out the Bucks and Brewers ever getting to a championship series until their respective leagues implement a hard cap, and if they somehow manage to draft out of their minds to put themselves in position it will be a small window of time to get it done before their star players leave to join superteams in L.A. or New York. Gotta love sports leagues where all but four or five teams have no shot of winning a championship.

As long as there's a theOSU, Badgers football will need a fluke game to win a championship.

UW basketball had it's best and only chance in 2015. Marquette is highly unlikely too.

As I've stated earlier, I believe this was the last best chance for the Packers to win a Super Bowl in the Rodgers era and are probably looking at alot of losing once he's gone. Free agents will not want to come to Green Bay once Rodgers is gone, which could be sooner than later given his comments after the game, and Love is not going to be the next in a long line of Hall of Fame quarterback play.

I don't know, how are the Admirals doing? (Oh they've opted out of the season due to covid) Are the Wave still a thing around here? Green Bay has a hockey team, don't they? Is The Gravedigger still coaching in the Lingerie League?

Today and game 7 in 2018. The two most devastating losses I've seen in my life. There is no sugar coating it, there is no look at the bright side.

2014 was much worse than today and that heartache will never be topped. That and Super Bowl 32 are my two.

That was three years after winning a Super Bowl and the Packers were a touchdown underdog on the road to what many considered a better team. It was certainly a huge choke job but given the circumstances, today feels far worse.

Being honest the only two teams i even remotely follow that have a shot at a championship are..

#1. UW women's volleyball and hockey.

. And as much as I rag on granato the mens hockey team is showing signs of at least being able to compete for one.

Even UW Volleyball can't get over the hump. They play their way to #1 rankings, then meet volleyball royalty teams like PSU and Stanford in the finals and get steamrolled every time.

True.

Sadly so. With the state of college FB and men's BB at some point, I fear that UW's 2006 hockey title might be the last big one we see until the landscape changes. VB has a chance to get one someday, but it seems that would take a bit of luck too.

I believe their only other time at #1 was briefly mid-season when promptly lost to Minnesota. They were underdogs in all of three national title matches. Only one heart breaking loss I can think of was the 1997 Regional Final.

Not sure if it is fair to compare VB to FB or MBB.

This all really brings home for me the fact that you can make a super strong case for February 2011-February 2021 being the best decade in Wisconsin sports history...

...and it produced one championship. That is equal parts exciting and humbling.

So is anybody changing their mind on the old "Would you rather be consistently good over the long haul and only win one championship or win multiple championships surrounded by a whole bunch of suck"?

[sarcasm]I don’t think you framed that question correctly. In addition to being consistently good, we also got a sledding hill.[/sarcasm]
