Brewers farm director Tom Flanagan said Corey Ray could miss anywhere from 4-6 weeks with that jammed finger that landed him on the DL again at Class AAA San Antonio.

He'd been trying to play through it, but it had gotten to the point where a shutdown made the most sense.

Also, LHP Nathan Kirby underwent surgery on April 22 for thoracic outlet syndrome. He likely won't start pitching again until late July-early August.

It's the third major surgery for Kirby, who's also had Tommy John as well as a procedure for ulnar neuritis since Sept. 2015.

Finally, LHP Cam Roegner is nearing a deployment to an affiliate after dealing with a sore shoulder that cropped up in the spring.

Roegner, a Beloit native, had a breakout 2018, going 9-7 with a 2.83 ERA in 26 games (25 starts) at Carolina/Biloxi/Colorado Springs.

For those wondering about Phil Bickford, David Stearns said he's still in Arizona working on strengthening his arm with the goal of getting out to an affiliate in the "not-too-distant future."

damn, feel bad for Kirby. Dude has been injured literally his entire career.

Sometimes the body just doesn't allow you to play baseball for a living, particularly if you are a pitcher.

Stinks for Kirby and for the brewers, but that's part of the risk/reward of drafting a talented but injury-hampered arm.

Whoa, a rare Bickford mention. Would imagine he gets assigned to Carolina again, if not Appleton. So no progression, or even regression after three years. Hard to believe what looked to be a steal with the Will Smith trade turned out to be a bust, and that despite Smith needing Tommy John shortly after the deal.

Shoulder soreness for Roegner... hope that he is 100 percent, and that this isn't a prelude to bigger problems.

As for Kirby, these are separate conditions, and while he is delayed, I think he has the ability to make a Rasmussen-like climb in 2020.
