The Brewers are 10-7 in games Pina has started. Considering the team’s overall record he can’t he hurting the team THAT much when he plays. Sure, he’s been terrible in his occasional pinch hitting appearances, but that’s probably going to be the case for most backup catchers, who are usually on the roster because they can handle the position.

On the list of the Brewers problems, Pina as the backup catcher isn’t in my top 10.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Jettison Pina, Grandal leaves in FA and all you have for next year is two guys who've never played before. And of course, no one behind them either.

There will be better catchers out there than a 33-year-old Manny piña.

With multiple suitors and who'll cost way more and no guarantee to get them. If you sign them, well then you can not sign Pina back or keep him as backup, trade others, whatever you want. In NBA terms, think of it as not giving up an asset for nothing.

There sure is a lot of recency bias when it comes to Pina. The guy is a solid defensive catcher, and was very good offensively in 2017, and still pretty decent last year. Yeah, he hasn't been great in very sporadic playing time this year, but as a reserve catcher, you can do a heck of a lot worse than Manny Pina.

National writers are starting to get snarky.

I've seen several national writers with comments just like that one...

Seems everyone realizes what is going on except the Brewers front office.

I think everyone would like Hiura brought up now but what corresponding roster move are you going to make to make that happen?

Travis Shaw has options and a 570 OPS. Aguilar is a waste of a roster spot also.

I doubt that the Brewers have their heads in the sand on this. They know, and I'm sure they have their reasons for doing what they are doing. i just wish I knew them.

Shaw did take an IBB in front of the pitcher and scored a run today. Maybe we should put the brakes on this Hiura talk for a while.

Shaw hit one to the track and lined out to left as well.

The easy move is an option of Shaw to AAA. They could also drop a reliever and go with a 12-man pitching staff.

If Shaw has options and cannot refuse assignment to the minors that move is a no brainer. I assumed the reluctance to bring up Hiura was because they couldn’t send Shaw down.

They most definitely can, and he most definitely cannot refuse to go. It's one of the factors that makes this whole situation more baffling by the day.

You know the reason, you just don't agree with it. That's fine, just saying it's not a big mystery.

I mean if it's Super 2 that ship has sailed. It could be that they want to build up trade value in someone that has very little right now. I dunno.

It's purely a loyalty thing now. I think when we traded for Moustakas last year and Shaw moved to 2nd base (and basically took a platoon role) he was slighted a bit after having an excellent 2017 and a decent first half of 2018. He did what was best for the team and moved to 2nd base.

Then we re-signed Moustakas and he did the flip-flop with Shaw moving back to 3rd, and his role has been (rightfully) diminished even more. You can call it "hurt feelings" if you want, but it's also just good organizational practice to stand by your veterans who have been very productive for you. The timing just couldn't be worse for this kind of thing though with Hiura being ready and the team smack dab in the middle of a pennant race.

Yes, you can definitely see a trend of current management is to be loyal and give people long leashes. This has been their pattern the whole time, been down this road for a lot of guys where they give them a few more weeks than we all prefer. I thought this month here would've been enough for them to say, "hey we've done right by you but you're still not performing so we have send you down"

Exactly. Great explanation.

Shaw and Aguilar they control for the next 3-4 years, so I’m sure that plays a part in all this too.

Not sure about JMB but it's a mystery to me, if you are referring to CC's comments yesterday on it I will just say I don't believe that is the real reason. If not, what reason are you referring to?

This is not the Little League!

Play your best players!

How about loyalty to the fan-base!?!?!?!?!?!?

The fans foot the bill, don't they?

Fans often think they know better than the FO, and they are rarely right.
