Braun went 4/9 his first two games with a ding dong. 3/4 in his second game. Of course we can't expect rookies to immediately kill it, but plenty of young guy do come up and make an impact quickly. Hopefully that's the case. Plenty of others also need time, we'll see. Excited to see.

If somehow he does do well and gets a lot of starts then what do they do? If he only plays like 5 games and just does blah it's not much of a question.

Vlad Jr. was supposed to be the greatest hitting prospect in forever and he has struggled mightily. It's a big jump to MLB.

That doesn't mean we shouldn't be excited about him. We've been hearing about how great a hitter he's been for a couple of years now, he dominated the AFL and is tearing up AAA. Could he struggle? Sure. Could he also come up and rake? Sure.

It's ok to be excited about the top prospect (and arguably the top one the Brewers have had in several years) getting called up. Given how awful Shaw and Aguilar has been, he wouldn't have to be very good to be a marked improvement.

if he struggles, he can go back to triple A to get more seasoning. still its probably good for him to see some mlb pitching. i would be surprised if he doesn't get called down at some point, unless he does crush it and gives the brewers no choice. in the meantime i'm going to enjoy seeing him up here.

For me, this is far more anticipated than Arcia...simply because it was very unlikely Arcia was going to be an impact bat immediately(or ever). He was a clear glove first guy to shore up the defense. Even if their prospect values are/were similar on paper...you notice the bat and slash line way more than superb defense.

Was really hoping we could wait until June to preserve the year but I would be lying if I said I wasn't excited. His bat is the real deal and he will eventually hit in the majors. Hopefully, it is sooner rather than later as it could make a heavy impact on our season if he does.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

Be excited all you want. Just remember that sometimes you open up your Christmas present and it's socks from Grandma.

And sometimes, instant offense comes in the form of Tyler Saladino or Eric Sogard.

I do want to see what he can do. I just no longer trust Top 30 or Top 100 rankings as being predictive. There's too much variation to say that the #1 guy is better than the #7 guy, etc., at least at the start of a career.

Looking forward to seeing what Hiura can do! I would assume he will be in the lineup as long as he’s up.

Yeah, you don't call up a prospect the caliber of Hiura to have him collect dust behind Perez and get a PH appearance every game. He's going to start at 2B as long as he's here.

While it's important to temper expectations I think, it is also important to note that Moose should continue his fine work with the bat as the predominant 3B. It is Hiura's job to put up better production than Shaw. I imagine he should be able to do that.

I like that this makes us less LHH heavy.

Vlad Jr. turned 20 three weeks ago. I think his struggles were pretty predictable.

Forget the age factor, he had a K rate of less than 10% the last two years combined and after being promoted spike to over 20%. Hiura is debuting with a K rate of nearly 30%. Kid destroyed and overperformed for his age at every stop. Not sure why it wasn't expected for him to over perform at the MLB level compared to a normal rookie. Big jump yes, but Guerrero Jr. was no normal guy.

I will temper my expectations for a guy who gets fanned at a high rate at AAA. Not sure why going to the MLB level will help that much and guys striking out 30% of the time don't typically provide much of meaning.

It is really hard to predict how a guy will do when making the jump. Some guys sprint out of the gate and some don't. Some surprise compared to expectations and some obviously disappoint. Hopefully he looks competent.

His year is already preserved. Its really about money with super 2. I will bet you the new CBA will change that anyway.

Doubtful that a new CBA would impact him. Most likely the players would that would come up after the new CBA would feel any impact of change.

And there are plenty of examples in recent history on the other end of the spectrum that dominate MLB pitching early in their career. Bellinger, Soto, Acuna, further back obviously Braun. Even our last "great" 2B prospect, Brett Lawrie, had a dominant rookie year after the trade. Just because it doesn't happen every time doesn't mean Hiura can't do it.

Wish he would have been called up for the Cubs series but I'll take it!!

Agreed. I doubt Shaw just suddenly had a wrist injury. Brewers sure could have used that bat the last 4 games.

I get the feeling that Shaw's last three ABs last night sealed it. Two pretty hapless looking Ks and a lazy fly. I predict he takes 10 days off, then goes on a minor league rehab to AAA. Hopefully that does the trick. The Brewers are going to need that bat working again.

I am more shocked it took this long for them to put him on the IL with the wrist injury. He has been battling that for most of the season and has sucked for most of the season.
