Keston Hiura called up, Shaw optioned

jjgott
I hold out hope they option a pitcher instead of Hiura...I think he deserves until the AS break to show where he is at. Plenty of days off between now and 4th of July weekend to make it work using a bullpen shuttle if needed with one less arm in the pen, plus Nelson appearing to not be far off.

CC said himself that hiura hit himself onto the mlb roster...he sure hasn't hit himself off it. Dude doesn't deserve a demotion right now.

He has 15 homers before June 1 between AAA and MLB, I don't know how you send down a guy producing like that until he stops doing it. And keeping him up instead of playing the Super 2 game could be a nice gesture to get him to sign an early extension. He will probably have a slump eventually and they can send him down then.

With Gio going on the 10-day DL and Piña being recalled, and the Brewers not needing a 5th starter until the 8th, I think that we'll see Nottingham get optioned for Shaw, meaning Keston will stay on the roster a while longer on matter what.

Counsell says Shaw is returning Tuesday and plan is to play him at 3rd. Presumably Moose to 2nd and that means Hiura to....somewhere else. They do play a couple of AL teams in a week or so. He'll probably stick around to DH and maybe platoon with Moose.

I want Hiura to stay at 2B. What we've seen from Shaw this year kind of scares me. Reminds me of some the issues with Aguilar and, to a lesser extent, Thames. Basically you can talk all you want about how Shaw and Aguilar had two good years, but that doesn't necessarily trump all the mediocrity they showed for many years before that. I have more confidence in Hiura to help the team, even though he is just a rookie.

Burnes should be sent down and start and pitch as many innings as needed to straighten him out. There are plenty of options pitching better than him right now.

I'd move Thames one way or another to enable activating Shaw. He can get at bats at 1B and 3B and ph.

Hiura should be kept because he's a much better hitter than Thames now and gives them better righty-lefty balance. Aguilar is also a better hitter than Thames.

I don't really believe anyone could say with a straight face that right now the lineup would be better with Shaw in it and Keston not.

Good thing 1B is a black hole, which is where I imagine he gets time to play. Though at the same time they could get bailed out by Moustakas (unfortunately) if he needs to go on the IL.

Seeing as Nottingham is on this roster I am guessing they will be fine with all of Thames/Aguilar/Shaw on the roster for the short term...because it doesn’t get any more wasteful than a third catcher.

Yeah in baseball I tend to hear that things will just work itself out and it doesn't look like it will be too difficult getting Hiura and Shaw playing time. Not a chance Hiura gets demoted right now

The 2019 rookie class in MLB has been incredibly productive. Hiura is part of the strongest class I can remember. I still think Brewers will have to unload one of Thames, Aguilar or Shaw. Ironically it might be the one that gets hot who'll be in demand.

That’s what BA said with conviction during the broadcast yesterday and I believe him.

Hiura is going to be their 2nd best bat by June. This June. Said it before the season started and putting it on record again here.

Right on schedule. With yesterday's day at the plate (June 1) Hiura is now second only to Yelich in BA, SLG, and OPS. And he's just getting started. Wait until he cuts down on his strikeouts.

I’m sold.

Hoping things work out for him to stay up all of the rest of the year. Imo he’s needs ABs vs big league pitchers only, the adjustments he has already made are very much rookie Braun like, but he’ll need to make more and let’s get to it ASAP, because this could be the difference making bat this team needs for the playoffs.

Good call TBBC.

Now if we could just get the piggy backing thing worked out... :)

Yeah no kidding. Alonso, Guerrero, Senzel, Robles, Hiura, and even that Lowe kid in Tampa Bay (I'm sure I'm forgetting others).

Are you betting against what I described happening? ;)

It's closer to reality every passing day.

I was being conservative saying he mildly confirmed it. I did so because I realize there will still be doubters until the season arrives and the piggybacking is on full display.

The season has arrived. It's not on full display. You were a year or ten too early. End of story.

In regards to Hiura, I think everyone can pat themselves on the back. He started out slow and K'd quite a bit so people preaching patience were right. Now he's raking and the people who thought he'd hit were right. We're all winners. Congrats everyone. Take a bow and drink a beer!

Add rookie hitters in recent years like Acuna, Soto, Andujar, Judge, Bellinger, Seager, Turner, Correa, Lindor, Bryant etc.

There's been plenty or recent evidence that a rookie can come in and rake from day 1.

Austin Riley has been incredible as a rookie with the Braves so far. Brendan Rodgers has held his own, but I wouldn’t be surprised if things really start clicking for him at Coors Field as well.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

Except the posters here who called the Brewers idiots for not giving Hiura TJ surgery immediately after drafting him. They can sit quietly for another week, then join the party.

Hiura already batting clean up today. So huge to have another home grown superstar. He is almost perfect, and still just 22. Well done Brewers.

Aren't we still kind of worried about what they're going to do here with Shaw already said to be coming back? It seems Moose does not need a IL sting so I'm still worried Huira is going back down. This is also relevant for fantasy this week

No, not worried, because if he does go down, it likely won't be for long. He's made a very nice first impression in his first taste of the Show.

Disagree. It would be completely inappropriate and it could cost them games. If Shaw comes up in Hiura's place and still isn't hitting, then the team is making a playoff contender worse. Given last season's down to the wire, tie-breaker with the Cubs, the team shouldn't be downgrading unnecessarily for any stretch.
