Very good defensive effort.

Badgers look like a different team these last two outings...back-to-back Quad 1 wins on the road (though who knows if Tennessee will stay that way--they look ugly right now).

In the B1G, it's looking like you really have to take care of business against Nebraska and Northwestern. As long as you beat those teams, there are no bad losses in league play. Given the pretty bad noncon, I think I'd want to be 12-8 at the end of league play to feel good about a bid. Ideally, they can grab a few more road wins too because I wouldn't want to be like 3-13 in road/neutral environments and be anywhere near the cut line.

11 wins should do it, they are #24 in NET rankings right now despite all the noncon losses so I don't see them as a team that would be left out with a winning big ten record. Not bad considering where I felt a couple of weeks ago. Still sort of disappointing to watch them, Davison is just not the all conference caliber player we all hoped for. Plenty of room for improvement, we have some good talent. I noticed Pritzl got more minutes than Davison and King last night.

They are going to win this game and have not played well.

Ohio St. played worse?? Badgers played good defense. Turned it over less. Rebounded well. And stuff...

They're going to get a win over the #5 team in the country. They did something right....

True. Both teams played poorly. I should have added more. I didnt expect Ohio State to play worse than the Badgers. Guess I've just come to assume when they play that bad that they are going to lose. There were so many bricks and awful shots it was amazing that they were still in it, let alone a position to win.

Yeah, the NET likes them a lot, which is good. My one hesitation is just that I'm not really sure how much the NCAA is going to rely on a team's own NET ranking versus the NET of their opponents. I know that sounds weird, but, with the RPI, the RPI of who you played seemed to always matter WAY more than your own RPI. With there only being a one-year sample size so far, I'm not sure how the committee is going to use the NET. It frames the whole Quadrant system, of course, but you can lose a lot of Quad 1 games and still have a high NET.

A couple of things would concern me if I'm the Badgers re: selection:

1) That road/neutral record isn't great. They have two nice road wins, but I think they're going to need to poach a few good road wins in league play.

2) Saint Mary's is going to be a team in the vicinity of the cutline, as might Richmond. Usually, the selection process has been weighted to favor major conference teams (maybe not as an explicit bias, but certainly as a result of the selection criteria and general scheduling principles employed by teams), but, in this case, the Badgers will have neutral court losses to two teams that they might be in direct competition with come Selection Sunday.

Obviously, it's January 5th. But those are things worth monitoring, I think...

Edit: Just to add a note on Pritzl, who, in my view, has been the Badgers' most important player so far this year. He's shooting well and defending well, and he's earned his minutes, I think, though I was surprised King didn't get more time v. OSU. He made the most of his 2nd half, though!

This is the worst season of college BB that I've ever seen. Nobody cares anymore. When a good player like Amir Coffey would rather play in the G-League than get a degree (for free) and possibly lead his hometown college to a nice season and possible NCAA run, you know that things are different.

The B1G is full of good coaches and mediocre teams...and they are BY FAR the best conference in the country. That's all it takes.

I don't really get it, as players now are better than they've ever been, but for some reason the overall quality of basketball just isn't very good. The lack of great upperclassmen is probably finally catching up to the NCAAs as anybody who is good enough leaves for greener pastures ASAP. The NBA/CBB NEEDS to adopt a similar system to the MLB and/or the NFL and make guys who go to school stay in school for at least 3 year following HS--and let them be draft eligible out of HS. The farce of "student" athletes in basketball might eve be worse than football, which is saying something.

All of that said, I think it only benefits a team like the Badgers. They play to win every day and Gard will have a gameplan to get that specific task done against every team they face. Beating a top 5 team on the road is no small feat.

If anybody wants to help fill the rest of this matrix in, please do. I'll try to correct any mistakes, but it's fairly self explanatory. Just enter the date the game will occur in the correct cell. The color coding and order of standings is incorrect right now, but I'll update it correctly once all the cells/dates are filled in. Thx.

The one I saw earlier in the week had them at a play in game. This was before the OSU win and the Ill loss.

As of now, that is probably where they belong. Right on the bubble.

Also, one positive is that the Big 10 is going to give them a lot of chances for good wins.

EDIT: Just saw ESPN has them at a 7 seed.

They will make it. The Big 10 provides pretty much all decent to good wins and the top teams are great, but very beatable...thus they should still get some nice statement wins. I just don't see them missing it even if they have a decent amount of losses because they will at least have the resume of wins to make it look palatable.

I have to disagree. The NIT is the ceiling for this group.

You just can't win with the guards that they have
