Wisconsin Basketball Thread 2019 - 20: BIG TEN CHAMPS & BPI NCAA Champs!

The A-10 had a good day yesterday. I think the B1G is going to be down. MSU isn't full-strength, but who knows when Langford comes back, and I'm not a big believer in Maryland. If I could get decent odds, I might be highest on Ohio State to win the league just because of Holtmann.

As for the Badgers, they lack a true scoring threat. That's been obvious all year, and I don't see it getting much better, though maybe Potter helps when he becomes eligible. Still plenty of chances for quality wins, but you're not going to be able to beat many good teams going scoreless for 4 and 5 minute stretches regularly. We'll see if King or Ford can emerge as a real scorer. Ford is one of those guys who isn't very good if he's not shooting, but if he finds a consistent 3-point shot, he'll become awful hard to guard.

Very limited offensively.

On a fun note, Stephen F. Austin just won @Duke at the buzzer on a crazy play. The number one team in the country has now lost twice this year at home to teams who finished under .500 last year in one-bid leagues. That is nuts.

I wonder where winning at Cameron ranks compared with, say, winning an NCAA tourney game at SFA. Think they'd trade this win for a Sweet 16? Probably. But not for anything less as I see it.

Overshadowed by the football team, the basketball team had a large win today in the conference opener. I'm not sure where Indiana at this year, but still nice after the last couple games.

It's weird. The NET loves the B1G. Some natiional CBS guys too. There was some 9 bid chatter last week.

Yet, when I watch, I don't really see a lot of great teams. Maybe I will end up wrong, bit nobody really scares me. I honestly think the Badgers, as bad as they've looked, could finish anywherr from 4th to 10th.

22-11 at half against Rider. This team is just boring to watch compared to the Bucks.

A college team is boring compared to the best offensive team in the NBA. That isnt all that surprising. Pretty unfair comparison. I am not saying the Badgers are fun to watch - havent been able to watch much at all this year - but the Bucks are the best team in the NBA

College basketball can be highly entertaining but this Badger team just isn't. I appreciated the early Badger teams that wouldn't score a lot but would play awesome defense and it was great to watch. Offensively this team is just a total bore.

And then they score 43 in the second half

As someone who is pretty neutral about Badgers basketball, they are always boring to watch...that’s their style of play...boring. They just are never built to put up points.

Is this year on another level? Yeah, but hardly a new thing.

EDIT: To clarify I am not saying that as a bad thing, that style of basketball has resulted in a lot of success for a program that rarely gets notable recruits.

What struck me more last night was how the athletic department keeps/tries to keep a sporting event entertaining without the band or spirit squad, since they're all in Pasadena. The AreaRed DJ got a lot more time to shine. It wasn't a better or worse vibe, just very different.

Still, the crowd was pretty quiet until a point in the second half when the videoboard showed a dude wearing an Oregon T-shirt. The boos that rained on him were the loudest human noises made all night. :laughing

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.
