Wisconsin Basketball Thread 2019 - 20: BIG TEN CHAMPS & BPI NCAA Champs!

yeah not arguing that UConn isn't a better program than what I listed. The old big east imploded because the football schools were more focused on football than basketball, even though the big east was founded to be an elite basketball conference. If you need to expand and can find a school that is similar to what is already there, (smaller, private basketball only school), it would be a better fit IMHo

Alright, but FB is a pretty distant afterthought with Uconn I'd think. They've had a couple decent years and teams outta there, but it's BB school. Wouldn't they help out a great deal in negotiating a TV deal for instance?

Badgers signed '20 forward Steven Crowl from St. Paul, MN. Had offers from Iowa, and Minnesota. Shaping into a nice class.

Considering the last two recruiting classes this one is pretty nice for Wisconsin. They already have a 4 star commit for 2021 too. This one could get even better and be arguably their best class in god knows how long if Carlson were to come to Wisconsin. I am sure everyone and their entire family is praying for Patrick Baldwin Jr. in 2021.

Since I don't follow the Badgers religiously I am not sure on their chances of either of those players...I am guessing Baldwin Jr. is more of a pipe dream than realistic. Never know though I guess.

Rumor floating out there now that Carlson is going to commit.

And the rumor was true.....huge get.

They're in on a number of top recruits for 2021 many of whom are making oficial visits over the next two weekends.

Carlson commits as well! Now the #4 class in the nation, #1 in the Big 10.

It's a great class, a lot of that is quantity though. If you added the worst 2 of the 20 class to the Davison/Reuvers/King class it would probably rank about the same. A similar class that comes to mind was Vershaw/Kelley/Kowske/Linton/Wils, a lot people saw that final four team as overachievers but Vershaw really never hit his ceiling and Kelley never developed a shot. I remember some similar hype about that class when it came in.

A lot of that ranking is the fact so many players are still not signed. Once that happens I’m sure Wisconsin’s overall ranking will drop quite a bit. It’s still a fantastic recruiting class for Wisconsin...just a little misleading.

With that being said I feel quantity classes are better than quality for UW. Wisconsin just typically does better with experienced players...not the kinds looking to bounce soon. Make no mistake they have some real solid high ranking recruits for Wisconsin standards. I’d expect a real Final Four threat 2-3 years from now.

And now Matthew Mors commits. Another 4 star for 2021. Gard is putting together a couple of great classes the next two years.

I hope he is good but I wasn't incredibly impressed by his highlight videos. As always, the UW staff will coach him up.

Rivals has all the 2021 verbals as 3 stars and in the 100-150 range. Right in the Badgers wheelhouse as guys who will be there 4-5 years and hopefully be studs as juniors/seniors. Gard really doing a great job recruiting now, still needs to prove he can develop guys like Bo did but I am no longer in the panic mode I was when the Hausers turned him down. What a difference in a few short months.

Transfer Micah Potter, who didn't play a minute for OSU last year but stayed in school in order to stay on track to graduate, cannot play until the end of the semester at UW.

The NCAA is a total joke.

They are a complete joke. They protect the programs, not the students.

It looks as though Potter will be eligible starting Dec 21st vs UWM.

I'm going to laugh so hard when Hauser gets OKd to play at MSU this year but Potter didn't. I believe I saw a kid from Kansas played like 28 games last year and got OKd to play elsewhere this year. Then don't even get into how they let all the QBs transfer all over and play right away. The key seems to be playing for a blue blood name program in either sport.

Really what they should do is a media blitz on this and shame the NCAA until they cave. Jay Bilas would be 100% on their side, get on a few ESPN shows, Rome, etc. The public sentiment is so anti NCAA right now that the media people would eat it up. But, we know Barry is basically part of the system and isn't going to rock the boat

If the media went nuts with the Uthoff transfer stuff I cant believe they are not going crazy about this.

They probably felt bad for Charlie Moore for being so stupid for going to Kansas in the first place. Dude was pretty much a non factor bench piece after sitting out a year to play there. Can't speak for all blueblood programs, but can't recall the last time Kansas had a transfer get immediate eligibility on a waiver...only grad transfers. Actually I think any time something that involves an NCAA decision happens at Kansas it takes about 10x longer than it should.

I am honestly really surprised they didn't let Potter play from the start. Especially since OSU vouched for him. There just is no consistency when it comes to these decisions and often times they take way too long to decide. It is not that complicated. It honestly feels like there aren't really rules and it depends on their mood at the time.

And just to be clear...I don't think Potter is going to add 3 - 4 wins. It's the principle that matters. Kid does the right thing by trying to stay on track to graduate and gets punished for it.

This is why I have no sympathy for the NCAA when it comes to players being paid. The NCAA simply does not care about the athletes anymore.

Is that really the problem? He didn't elect to transfer until November. He was apart of the basketball team/university for months of the fall semester.

I don't see how he is being punished for staying on track to graduate. It isn't like he left the team prior to the semester starting and was only going to school at OSU because it was too late to enroll elsewhere. He was apart of the team and going to school.
