2019-05-10: Brewers (González) at Cubs (Quintana) [Brewers win, 7-0 -- Five hurlers combine to pitch shutout]

Eye Black
I'm so confused at how Aguilar did not move from 2nd to 3rd on that hit by Moose to Rizzo.

Tough to blame him when it wasn't 100% that Grandal was breaking home on contact, and the ball pushed Rizzo right towards him. He was basically at the bag when Rizzo threw home, so he would've been dead to rights had he left for third at any point on that play.

I haven't gone back and looked at it, but from where he was, wouldn't he have seen Grandal breaking for home right on contact? Rizzo had even less of a play at 3rd than he did at home especially at that angle.

He didn't run right away on contact, Grandal hesitated during the time Aguilar was reading what he was going to do.

Surprised no double switch when they brought Burnes in. Guess they didn't bank on a big inning here. But probably would've been easy to have Gamel go in for Braun. Plus Gamel is better on D

I am honestly not sure Burnes goes back to the rotation this year. I think especially with Knebel out and Barnes and Williams not being very successful, they really want another high leverage righty in that pen and may see him as such. The irony is the more he succeeds in this role I would guess the less likely he is to make it back to the rotation.

Sure looks that way to me as well. Especially once Jimmy and Anderson come back, assuming they do ok.

Still, right here you just used him for 1 batter. He could've had this inning as well instead of Albers if they did a double switch.

The problem is that Grandal didn't break for home right on contact. They didn't have the contact play on because of no outs; Grandal waited a second or two to see where the ball went before breaking for home.

Albers pitching in this spot is pretty strong evidence that the bullpen is still in crisis, is it not? #KimbrelFever

Albers on the roster is pretty strong evidence of a bad bullpen. Only 1/4 blue.

At some point you have to question why Albers is still even on the MLB roster. It may be getting to the point where you just eat his 2019 salary and move on.

The funny thing is I would assume he'd have great numbers with 1 BB/9 and 11 K/9. He just gives up so much hard contact.

"Here's where Hiura would have made the difference!"

- Someone somewhere

Although I didn't bring the topic up while Perez was diving for a nice defensive play and spinning around on his rump to throw a crazy hard strike to Aguilar to beat a guy by a half step with another guy on base... I haven't seen Hiura play at all, but from what I read there is it sounds like a 0% chance he makes that play--and that was a big one.

Crisis?

I’d say no, but the pen will get stronger when Anderson and Nelson are back, and we have another starter or two in the pen. Burnes Guerra Hader kimbrel sure would be a nice backend though.

Sure seems Claudio if only faced lefties he'd be really good. Check stats: 440 OPS vs lefties.

IDK I guess I'm just not sure on using Albers at all there with the top 3 guys available. Obviously the non double switch was the start of it. Hopefully it works out and we still win, but maybe a mistake there regardless
