Wild Sixth Inning Crushes Rattlers Hopes for a Win

Lake County scores five runs without a hit in decisive inning

By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers

Justin Bullock walked the first batter he faced to load the bases. The next two batters were also walked by Bullock to force in two runs. Bullock threw ball one to Reeves and walked to the grass behind the mound in some discomfort. He left the game after trainer Jeff Paxson and manager Matt Erickson went out to check on him.

AUDIO via the Rattler Radio Blog: "In tonight's Postgame Podcast, Chris Mehring & Kyle Lobner get an update on Justin Bullock, dissect a difficult top of the sixth inning, and find the positives. Logan Gillaspie and Matt Erickson chime in with comments from the clubhouse, too."

Hold our collective breath on young Bullock (turns 20 years old this Sunday). Justin (17th round, 2016) "heard a pop in his elbow". Lots of diagnostics to come. Here's hoping, as it could be a wide range of results.

Via Chris Mehring's Media Notes:

LHP Michael Mediavilla placed on Injured List (Retroactive to 5/8)

LHP Wilfred Salaman transferred from Rocky Mountain to Wisconsin

Without providing further details, Wisconsin broadcaster Chris Mehring described Michael Mediavailla's placement as "precautionary" on Thursday's postgame podcast.

Carolina Loses 4-2 to Fayetteville, Falling Short in Sweep Attempt

The Mudcats lost for the second time this season when playing as the "Micro Brews" on Thursday

Fayetteville's starter Enoli Paredes and reliever Cristian Javier combined to total 17 strikeouts in the series finale defeat of Carolina. The Mudcats also combined to go 0-for-12 with runners in scoring position.

Ugh...

RH starter Matt Smith has a pitch count reach mentioned. He missed all of 2017 and 2018 recovering from Tommy John surgery. By the way, we just contacted Baseball Reference so they may drop eight independent league games in 2018 from Smith's page there, listed in error.

Delivering in the clutch again

Missions' Hager produces another walk-off hit

By Jerry Briggs / San Antonio Missions

Corey Ray said he broke the middle finger on his right hand while sliding in spring training.

"I didn't say anything because I wanted to play and could play," he said. "Then I dove in a game at Nashville and I couldn't do it anymore."

Can't be "hiding" that, Corey...

Remember all those Corey Ray extra base hits in 2018? None in 57 AB's in 2019, and of course, part of that is due to the above. But a .408 OPS in those AB's is hard to do. Let's just pretend his season starts now, but those early at-bats won't come off his batting line all season, major drag on the numbers.
