Franchise Won-Loss Records on July 1

Some random thoughts about the Brewers record this season, as it compares to franchise history:
  • This was the second-best record on July 1st in franchise history; in 1978 (the first year of Bambi's Bombers), Milwaukee was 45-31, for a .592 winning percentage.
  • The Crew has been at or above .500 on July 1st 13 times in their 38-season journey as Milwaukee's representative in the AL and NL.
  • Of those 13 times, the Brewers have only finished below .500 four times: 1975 (68-94), 2004 (67-94), 1998 (74-88 ) and 1996 (80-82). You'll notice that two of those were in NL play.
  • This was the second-worst dropoff, in terms of winning percentage, from game 34 on the season to July 1st in franchise history. In 1990, the Crew went from a 21-13 start to 33-41 on July 1st, en route to a 74-88 record in the AL East. Incidentally, these were the only two seasons where the drop from game 34 to July 1st was greater than .100.
  • 47 wins is the most in franchise history on July 1st, and the sixth time the team has posted 42 wins as of that date. The other seasons should bring a smile to Brewer fans: 1978, 1979, 1980, 1998... and 1982. 1998 was the only losing season of that bunch.
  • The average dropoff from July 1st to season's end in winning percentage is -0.004; that would still project this team at about 95 wins.
  • The number of times the Brewers have had a worse final record than on July 1st is 16, compared to 21 times where they improved.
