The Curse of the Opening Day Starters

Crash2303

the past few years, it seems like whoever is named opening day starter is cursed. as none of these guys are true Aces, the conspiracy theory in me, can't help but wonder if there is something psychological to it...[sarcasm]or supernatural[/sarcasm]. Here's hoping Chacin can turn it around and end the curse of the BODS.

2019: Chacin - 5.92 ERA - 5 games so far (2018: 3.50 ERA)

2018: Anderson - 3.92 ERA - lost starting role in off-season (2017: 2.74 ERA)

2017: Guerra - 5.12 ERA - lost starting role (2016: 2.81 ERA)

2016: W.Peralta - 4.86 ERA (2015: 4.72 ERA)

2015: Lohse - 5.85 ERA - lost starting role (2014: 3.54 ERA)

No, we just don’t have good pitchers. Rarely do we have good guys who actually can be counted on every season. It is almost always a veteran, who had a career year, and then time comes to be brought back down to earth.

Loose was old and done, Peralta wasn’t good in the first place, Guerra was a fluke, Anderson had a career year and regressed, and Chacín isn’t particularly all that good himself.

Not psychological at all. We just never have a true reliable top of the rotation guy.
