Payton Henry wasn’t in a hurry to leave the playing field at Segra Stadium on Sunday, and with good reason.

 

The Carolina Mudcats’ catcher had just finished the most productive series of the young 2019 season by smacking a three-run homer in the top of the fifth that provided the margin in a 6-5 Advanced Carolina League victory against the Fayetteville Woodpeckers. The blast was the third in four games for Henry, who went 6-for-16 at the plate with seven RBIs in the four-game set that marked the opening of Fayetteville’s $40.2 million downtown ballpark.

 

“This ballpark is awesome,″ Henry said. “I don’t know if the ballpark has anything to do with me hitting the home runs, but it’s a great place to play and a great atmosphere. You can’t ask for anything more than to play in front of some fans every day.″
