Burnes and Petricka optioned to AAA; Hart recalled; Wilson reinstated

And That
My thought process is this.... if CC really thinks this guy is great, CC should give him some rope to adjust here. Let's have our best pitchers pitch. CC may be right by sending him down, but then CC shouldn't have been pumping up this guy, and the other young starters, to the media in ST only to jerk him after four starts in mid April. One way or another...

Lotta BS from Counsell from first week of season of "letting these young guys pitch", "it's their time"..... I'm not saying he's wrong in doing it, but he's pulling the trigger quite early with Burnes after hearing him speak on the topic in the opposite direction for weeks.

Not at all. It sounds like the Brewers have had conversations with Burnes and all agree his LONG future is as a starter. He cannot really work on things in the majors, so the result is 2-5 games in the minors is the goal (they said 2-3). Sometimes a pro golfer needs to take a weekend off and just work on the game. That's basically what they're doing here. It's not like their angry and punishing him by yanking him from the rotation. They're giving him the best chance for success. They're not REPLACING him in the rotation, they'll be FILLING IN for him. Very careful word choice

He faced the Cards twice, Cubs and Reds.... probably top 10 offenses once everything plays out. Burnes is a top pitcher for us and needs tweaking, not a bunch of moves back and forth between AAA and majors.

Remember that Roy Halliday held the record for highest ERA in a season till Wily Peralta broke it. They sent him down to A-ball a talented pitcher with crappy results, and he returned a stud. Burnes can return much better than his first go round

When a guy gets lit up like Burnes did, he needs more than tweaking. His FB is pretty straight with little movement. His mechanics need adjusting so he can get the ball down. Plus he needs to look at a two seamer a little more to get more late movement. Every HR but one was hit off a 4 seam FB in a bad location and up in the zone. It may be as simple as his stride is too short or his arm angle is too low. He needs time in AAA to work on things w/o the added burden of losing an MLB game.

CC was trying to show the three young guys he had confidence in them from the start. It's not a case of giving Burnes more opportunities. He would just get crushed again. He needs work on his mechanics, work he can't get in the majors. CC was right in showing he had confidence in Burnes, and he's correct now in sending him down to get work things out.

He needs to do the exact opposite of this. He needs to throw the ball up in the zone more often with his spin rate. He's given up four hits this year on fastballs in the upper third of the strike zone. Three of them were homers but I wouldn't say they were terrible pitches. DeJong and Pedersen made the best contact, both homers with 100+ mph exit velocity at the top of the strike zone. Heyward got one too but it only left at 95 mph (still hard but not exceedingly so) and barely made it over the right field wall. The other was a pitch off the plate that left Goldschmidt's bat at a scorching 36.5 mph.

A team "all in" doesn't get to let young players play through really poor play when there are many options available. Good decision. Also good to not move him to the pen if the intention is still to have him start this year.

@Haudricourt

Counsell said the start Saturday vs. Dodgers will be handled internally, with Chase Anderson the centerpiece. As for Monday in St. Louis, that's TBD at present.

Sounds like he will/should start. Would guess Wilkerson for Monday, but it could always end up being Houser.

This right here.You can't afford to be patient when you are a small market team with a limited window for success.

Burnes has the stuff and natural talent to be a genuine ace, and I dont mean the guy who just happens to be our best pitcher like a Chacin or Gallardo.

He's got 4+ pitches in his quiver and one of the best spin rates in the game. IMO his uneven performances were the result of a fastball heavy approach for a guy who was struggling to locate his fastball and of course batters who were just sitting on those fastballs and waiting for him to miss high over the middle of the plate. In spite of his struggles he looked very good at times. IMO its not a confidence issue, he just needs more seasoning as a starter.

As for the Bullpen, thats a big no at this point of his career. We need him to turn into a future starter for us.

Look at this movement boys,
