2019-04-16: Cardinals (Flaherty) at Brewers (Woodruff) [Brewers win, 8-4 -- Woodruff stellar on the mound and at the plate; Just another Yelich HR]

Eye Black

8-0 lead and it’s going to be nail biting time until the final out.

I was disappointed to see Thames hit for Anderson, but he did pitch a couple of innings on Sunday and is probably a leading candidate to start Saturday.

Bringing Claudio in pretty much guarantees that the tying run will be at the plate this inning.

ETA- Thank goodness Claudio didn’t come in then.

So I saw somewhere that Brewers are waiting to see what Jeffress looks like before committing to Kimbrel. This better not be the case. It doesn't matter what he looks like they need him badly. You cannot have a bullpen this bad and get where we want to go.

Anyone else laugh at Bill saying the Cardinals cut the lead in half when it went from 6 to 4?

No, because they did cut the lead in half cumulatively. Factually correct, and everyone understood it too.

To be fair to me I was playing a game on my phone. :)

Yaz frame job....strike 3....

The difference between tonight’s strike zone and last night’s is pretty dramatic. No way that would have been a strike last night.

This season is going to be a wild ride. Despite being early in the season it already seems very likely we will see many waves of scoring for and against this team throughout these games. I can’t remember ever having this sort of feeling where I don’t take a 5-plus run lead for granted, but I also never give up when they get down a bunch either.
Not just “at Night” anymore.

Dang it ... we're going to plow through all out non-crappy relievers tonight, aren't we?

I know, "non-crappy" is somewhat relative.

But Rock said our bull pen has fared well so far this season...

The Brewers bullpen has the fourth highest Win Probability Added in all of MLB so far, so they have fared pretty well.

At least in terms of adding to our probability of winning anyway.

I think the standard they are using is that the Brewers haven’t been losing games by blowing late leads. They have made some games more uncomfortable than we’d like and allowed some deficits to get out of hand, but have held on tomwin when they’ve had the chance. Of course that has usually involved having Hader finish or having a huge lead.

If they get him, great. If they don't .. they'll figure it out. In any case, the "OMG the Brewers need KIMBREL!" talk is getting kind of annoying.

The Cards have been on the wrong end of quite a few calls this series. I'm surprised they're not getting all whinny and...Cardinally(which I guess is redundant).
