2019-04-15: Cardinals (Hudson) at Brewers (Peralta) [Brewers win, 10-7 -- Christian Yelich gives away a puppy, hits 3 home runs, tallies 7 RBI, makes sliding and diving catches, sheepishly obliges to curtain call]

Well, that’s one way to get a different home plate umpire.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

How on earth does Grandal not get a glove on that pitch.

Unbelievable.

Have you ever caught and had someone throw a fastball when you’re expecting some sort of off-speed? My guess is that’s what happened.

That was exactly what happened. Looked like Grandal was setting up to catch a splitter.

So it is a common thing for a professional catcher to have happen. ok, thanks for the insight.

I'm starting to wonder what the point is of leaving Adrian Houser down in San Antonio racking up dominant start after dominant start. Could this team not use another multi-inning power arm in the pen?

Or a dominating starter for that matter...

Actually, yes, quite often.

Does the umpire usually get nailed in the face? No.

My guess is that they want to keep him stretched out as a starter. Not much starter depth on the 40. Just him and Wilkerson.

But yeah I wouldn't be opposed to it at all. They really, really miss having young power arms in the pen.

Didn't see it, but if you're expecting a off-speed pitch and you get a fastball, it's pretty easy to get crossed up. Plus...Grandal just isn't that good defensively.

Yes it is. It is going to happen at least a dozen times for the Brewers this year, most likely more than that.
