Minor League Relievers

The pen has been OK lately and Counsel will manage who he has the best way he can. If and when they are needed, what current minor league pitchers are you most excited to see? I'm not considering Williams or Jeffress because we know what they have.

1. Zach Brown- He will be up after Memorial Day to make some starts in order to preserve Peralta, Woodruff and Burnes innings. That is exciting!

2. Miguel Sanchez- He has filthy stuff. Definitely a late inning, bullpen arm. He is going to be a good one!

3. Adrian Houser- After Jeffress, I think he will be the next man up as a loggy or getting an opportunity to start if the young three continue to struggle. I don't think a season like Brandon Woodruff in 2018 is unrealistic.

4. Nate Greip- He seems to be getting better and better. I am hoping he has a future in the pen. The Grim Greaper would be awesome at Miller Park.

5. Jay Jackson- He's been to The Show and may be hungry to get back. It looked like he had lively stuff.

6. Josh Fields- Definitely the most proven. Flyball pitchers at Miller Park always scare me. He may be the next in line.

7. Aaron Kurz- Does he pass up Wilkerson and Derby or any of the previously listed pitchers? He seems to be getting better.

8-9. Trey Supak/Marcos Diplan- Should be higher on the list but probably will have to make a stop at AAA. Intriguing young arms.

10. Bubba Derby- If he starts he may have more value but he seems like a pen piece.

11. Jon Olczak- The stats look decent. I am not sure what he has. I could be undervaluing him.

12. Aaron Wilkerson- He could also serve the purpose and give one of the young three a break on innings. He's a guy I'd love to root for.

13. Devin Williams- I heard the velocity is back. He was moving fast through the system until the injuries. I would expected a full year in the minors.

I'm excited most about the first 3. Sanchez could be a real sleeper in the bullpen. Houser could spot start or be used in late relief. And Brown could start or be this years Corbin Burnes/Woodruff out of the bullpen.

Not sure what to think of Griep. Never had much press on rookie lists. I'm hopeful but don't want to get too excited. I'd group the rest as just "lottery ticket" types. Most likely not going to help, but there could be a winner in there.

If you're reaching down to AA then Ponce, Webb, Perdomo and Barker should be in the conversation. Deolis Guerra is probably a legit option from AAA as is Derby. I'd be willing to bet Burch Smith gets a start or few at some point.
but it's not like every guy suddenly forgot every piece of advice he gave

1.)Drew Rasmussen- highest ceiling pen arm, think he will explode thru the system. Activating him on fri to pitch in miller park a sign of things to come.

2.)Angel Perdomo- Another high ceiling pen arm. Lefty high 90s heat, yeah. Command needs improvement, but he’s hard to hit.

3.)Jay Jackson- pitching pretty well in AAA, think he could be next up.

4.) Miguel Sanchez- CC pitched him a lot in spring training, so he must like him.

Not sure Brown and Houser gonna be in pen. Think they like their potential to be quality starters. Love both out of the pen though, especially Brown.

Maybe in 2021. Missing that much time, they're going to be VERY careful.

I don't see him making a start. Maybe moving to the pen like Burnes. But we're currently 8 deep with starters. Current 5, then Anderson, then Hauser, and--sometime soon--Nelson. Not sure we'll need to go that far down the depth chart

How bout August 2019, so he’s eligible for the playoffs.

No, that is real bad roster management.

Drew Rasmussen could be showing the brewers front office that they don’t need to trade for or sign a high leverage reliever after all, that They already have a dominating pen arm this year(think starter long term)rocketing his way up the crew’s minor league system. In less than 6 weeks low A to high A to AA.

Today they let him throw 16 more pitches than any previous start:

4 ip 1 h 0 r 2 bb 6

IF he keeps this up and IF the brewers need him we could see him in Milwaukee before September.
