Jeffress injury, Knebel injury, mistake of letting a cheap Miley go; moving Peralta, Burnes, and Woodruff to the starting rotation means a disaster in the bullpen is left. Those three young arms in the starting rotation don't have reliable/diverse enough stuff to go deep in games at all. They're too predictable after being seeing once/twice in a game ... long season awaits unless a big shakeup happens with this team's pitching I am afraid.

can you give an example where the young starters were hit in their 2nd or 3rd time through the order? I didn't think so

With the exception of Peralta's one start in Cincinnati, it is true. Check the boxscores.

Teams are sitting on those fastballs down the middle from these guys after seeing them once or twice in a game. These guys don't have enough fallback pitches to keep hitters guessing if they don't have the chance to pitch a much shorter outing and just throw flames for 30-40 pitches.

Gotta say that Grandal is brutal behind the dish. His pitch framing is supposed to be good, but he’s probably cost his pitchers 10 or more strikes this year by swiping at balls in the zone. Tonight they e had multiple pitches on the edges called balls

After last year's playoffs, I never would have guessed he sucked defensively.

Like, look at Baseball Reference?

Woodruff first time through - .250/.294/.250

Woodruff second time through - .400/.500/.667

Woodruff third time through - .286/.286/.571

Burnes first time through - .235/.278/.471

Burnes second time through - .235/.278/.588

Burnes third time through - .500/.600/1.625

How many hitters has Burnes faced a third time through? Burnes is giving up hr in every situation.

Peralta has given up all his runs early in 2 outings.

They will be fine. We haven’t developed our own pitching except Sheets and Yo. It’s time we take the A’s model and try to get 4-5 years out of a young pitcher then let them move on. Our commitment to young starters will pay off. If one is struggling in mid-May, then he can help shore up the pen while Nelson returns to the rotation. It’s a long season...let’s give them 5-10 turns before we start waiving the white flag. Our bullpen needs help. I’m guessing our next wave of pitchers help shore it up like Burnes did last year.

It really doesn't matter how many batters they faced the third time through the order or that it's a small sample you wanted an example of the young starters struggling the 2nd or 3rd time through the order and looking at the stats says they have.

I’m glad I fell asleep. Saved me some frustration after my HS team’s “bullpen” blew a game of their own. Ahh, the swings of highs and lows of a season.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

After all of the offseason hoopla, including the awards circuit and the California Strong things, I expected Yelich to get off to a slow start this season. Wrong.

But, he has been long overdue for at least a mini slump, and there are signs that he is getting into it now.

He went 2-4 last night and was robbed of a HR.

Yea, bur he rolled it over twice tonight= Yelich mini-slump

When you watch a team every day and see everybat bat you can see the difference between a guy who is really seeing the ball and getting consistently good contact and one who isn’t. It isn’t just measured by getting an occasional hit. My observation has been that since the opening weekend Yelich has been swinging at more bad pitches, swinging and missing more, and rolling over more balls. I would bet he would say the same thing.

Nobody can be as hot as he was for the last 2 1/2 months last year all of the time, and right now he is not in that kind of groove. He isn’t in the kind of funk that Aguilar and Shaw are in, at least not yet. But when he strikes out 3 times in a game against mediocre right handed pitchers, it stands out.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Yes, this pitching staff is concerning. It will be good to get Jeffress back but we can't keep giving up double digit runs and expect good things to happen. :(
