Ryan Braun is 54th in VORP this season.

JoeHova
Ryan Braun is 54th in VORP to this point in the season despite having less than 150 PAs. Some of the guys ahead of him (and many below) have 200 more PAs. Braun is basically exactly as valuable per PA so far as Barry Bonds (2007 version). His career is off to an amazing start.

If I did my calculations correctly, he also has the highest BABIP for any position player on the Brewers at .380. I believe this means that he's been "lucky" and that his number will regress either later this season or next season.

He's only got about 3 or 4 "extra" hits over his expected BABIP. He's been hitting a lot of line drives, which fall in for hits very often.

I didn't mean to imply that he would become Chad Moeller, just that he probably won't keep up the .340 pace. I just happened to be running a bunch of numbers to counter all my "Gwynn should be a starter" friends.

I wanted this placed here too, though i first put this in a Braun defense thread.

Ryan Braun currently has a slugging percentage of .684. If he ends the season at at level, he will join only 23 other players that have slugged at that level in the history of major league baseball. The other players that have slugged .684 or greater in a season - Babe Ruth (10 times), Barry Bonds (5 times), Lou Gehrig (4 times), Jimmie Foxx (4 times), Rogers Hornsby (3 times), Mark McGwire (3 times), Ted Wiiiams, (2 times), Larry Walker (2 times), Albert Belle (2 times), Mickey Mantle (2 times), Todd Helton (2 times), Jeff Bagwell, Sammy Sosa, Frank Thomas, Hack Wilson, Al Simmons, Stan Musial, Manny Ramirez, Hugh Duffy, Tip O'Neill, Chuck Klein, Luis Gonzalez, and Sam Thompson
