Honest question, what do the Packers have as legit slot receiver options going into the season as it stands right now? Allison can play some inside I guess, but do they have any other options as it stands? Really really disappointed that Ridley went to the Bears. He’s going to be a stud for them and a thorn in our side for a while.

With what’s left in the wide receiver group, I don’t see anyone that will be of much help right away. There could be a guy they can develop, but there isn’t a guy to step in to effectively replace Cobb this season. Packers have a big hole at slot in my opinion.

Cobb for just 1 year, 5 million is looking like a great deal for the Cowboys now. I guess maybe it doesn't really matter who you play in the slot if you have guys who can run good routes and get off the LOS. Still, REALLY would have liked a guy like Campbell instead of a Center with the 44th pick. A potential game changer.

Keke - DT from Texas AM

They always seem to run out of big guys by the end of the season. At this point in the draft, you’re either adding depth or buying lottery tickets.

That feels more like recency bias. They ran out of them last year after they were out of it.

They've had pretty reliably healthy guys there the last few years. One of the few positions.

Alison and Kumerow can probably both play in the slot along with splitting a TE out. A guy like Renfrow would have been a good fit, but they are not in dire need. They have options

St. Brown might be an option there as well. He probably should have been in this draft class and likely would have been picked much earlier than he was. He's got size, speed....he doesn't have Rodgers trust, but I thought he looked just as good when given a shot as MVS last year.

We've got Wr'ers...which I think you're saying, we just don't have the prototypical #1, #2 and slot. We have a #1 and then a bunch of other big, talented guys.

Now PLEASE take Boyd, the best available CB out of Texas. Never heard of him...but he's a corner who's not tiny or slow. Or just any CB with upside. A WR'er who could play CB works also.

I feel like were forgetting just how AWFUL our DB's were at the end of the 2017 at CB. Randall was our best and he was playing a pulled groin and had to round out his cuts like he was driving a 70's Caddy. Not exactly sharp cuts. Of course, at least then we weren't getting any pressure either, pass rushers and the DB's could equally share "credit."

And athletic, 6 FT+ CB who ran a sub 4.40 and had a 39 inch vert and a RB from ND who "plays faster than his times," in the 6th round.

Packers made a trade to get the RB, so they must have thought highly of him.

Not a bad year. Off by a round with Sternberger and Hollman, and got Ramsey and Bolton as UDFAs.

Joey got Sternberger with the right pick and JosephC got Hollman in the right round (not the right pick).

6th (own): Darrin Hall, RB, Pittsburgh – spent most of his career behind Qadree Ollison and James Connor but is by far the most athletic of the three and when Ollison went down he shined. A classic one-cut runner, Hall averaged 7.5 yards per carry last year racking up over 1000 yards. He blew up his pro day, running a 4.42 40 and a 3-cone time that would have been best at the combine. (Replaces 3rd string RB revolving door)

The Packers have claimed Darren Hall, who was waived by the Bengals.

Ok, as little as we can see in practice, you have to be almost giddy about Gary thus far.

I'm just amazed at the way he moves. He moves like Roquan Smith does, except he can also move through you. I hope he's demanding(rightfully) to be the highest-paid OLB'er in 4-5 years time!

Im just bumping this so the discussion on Gary doesnt eat pages after pages for NFL news.

I get it that 10games is awfully early for declaring a bust. It's a bust though imo in relation to his draft pick, what was available, and as Adam pointed out, using the choice with the FA signings making Gary a future project. Theres just so many players picked below him having big impacts (like Jenkins&Savage)

It's yr two for Trubisky with Chi. And Im now reading rumbling worst QB drafted this decade in 1st rd./for the cost. He had actually shown promise by game 10 vs the current Trubisky Chi is saddled with.

By your logic, not only was picking Aaron Rodgers at #24 a bust, so was any high pick who didn't come in and immediately start and put up star stats.

I agree with those that have said that they likely could have gotten more impact this season by choosing a player from a position where they weren't so deep, but as far as calling Gary a bust, the only logical answer right now is "We'll see".

I didn't like the pick and wished they had traded down but I'm not gonna call him a bust yet. If we're having the same discussion next year? I'll think about it.

I won't call him a bust, but there was no need to draft him where they did.

Not sure I buy this. A guy that was being mocked in the top 10 as recently as early April was far from a reach at 12. And the Giants were rumored to be taking him with their next pick.... I believe that was reported a week or two later.

Gary was problematic to Packer fans on draft day IMO because he was a guy they hadn't heard linked to GB and freaked out thinking about Justin Harrell as a result. People were up in arms about the Savage trade up/pick as well, and you don't hear those people owning that right now....

NFL football, more than any other professional sport, lends itself to "barstool GM-isim", where fans honestly believe that they know more than their chosen team's front office. That type of entitled attitude tends to get nauseating at times. Basically, the people that are complaining about the Gary pick now are the same people who complained about it then (because they didn't know who he was, isn't a WR, isn't a Watt brother, whatever), and they are propped up by the fallacy that his lack of measurable stats so far in his career proves them right.

I couldn't tell you whether Gary is going to amount to anything. At this point, no one can. Anyone who tries to claim that they know what that guy's future holds is blowing smoke. He's a 21-year-old kid with tons of potential. That's really it.

The funny thing about it is, all three of our first three picks took criticism here, and now Savage and Jenkins have proven to be solid early contributors. Gary takes criticism because he hasn’t had the opportunity to even prove himself yet. As you say, he may well flame out, but making that decision on him now is unbelievable.

Well, I think the guys on the barstools are often right. The difference is they're not going to be right as often as the front office on an NFL team will be. The Gary pick COULD be an example of so many other busts they drafted early for the front 7. Namely, convincing themselves they found a star who is underrated.

It's politics. Some scout absolutely loves a guy, but has to sell him to others because he's not going to the GM alone. So you sell the athleticism, combine scores, etc. and viola you get a #1 draft pick. Sometimes those athletic freaks turn out, sometimes they don't. Sure seems like over he years the Packers scouting team hasn't been very good identifying front 7 talent.

So 10 games is too early to call him a bust but it isn’t because he was the 12th pick? Who would you have picked instead that would have been worth that spot in your mind? Or what would Gary need to do so far for you not to call him a bust?

Every year there are lower draft picks or UDA’s who make big impacts and outplay higher drafted players - doesn’t make the higher draft pick a bust after less than a season worth of games.

Don’t take this as me saying I wanted Gary at #12... I just don’t think you can make that type of judgement

When I watch the Packer games, I keep an eye out for Gary and I cant think of the last time currently where he showed up in A single play. I have to remind myself he's wearing #52. Lancaster makes a play or two noticeably in about every game of late. The feelings towards Gary being a bust is seeing opponents having a rookie picked after him contributing or making plays in the game.

Fant was probably my go to on any trade lower. Risner was too. Burns was still there if you were committed to drafting an edge/LB hybrid. Haskins was near being picked. Just sliding back a few spots, you could have still had Gary or the other 3 who've been more productive. Plus the pick or picks you'd have received if for the 2019 draft to use. Devin Bush was an exciting player that I liked the most but drafted 2spots ahead of us. I really have the feeling he was the pick and in the span leading from Bush's selection to the Packers selection of Gary. That Gunst couldnt pull off a trade within that window.

Sternberger if he can get a few targets and catches his way down the stretch I will probably not care so much on Gary. I've noticed Jace on the field blocking in a number of snaps lately. TE is something missing for Rodgers for awhile now. I'll feel less hurt on the Fant vs Gary miss.

Edit add. Also one last thing on Gary. The Packers drafted him as a LB. You know freakish speed. Has he made a single play outside the pocket? Just another confusing disappointment of what his role is.
