2019 Green Bay Packers draft preview and predictions

The defense has been suspect since Nick Collins was injured.

I think they would have been better off drafting offense first for the last 8 years, trying to score on every possession, and just praying for one stop or a turnover. I’m only half joking.

Where is all this ‘2nd Rounder at best’ stuff coming from? He was 20th overall on Kiper’s board. Just because you haven’t heard of him doesn’t mean it’s not a good pick....

And Gary was 18th. So we got two top 20 players...on Kipers board.

Like I said, it's not the most exciting draft DURING the draft, but we have no idea how these picks will shake out for a couple years.

Rodgers doesnt need weapons, he needs more than a second before someone is in his face.

Have to agree 100%, tied for third most sacks given up last year with 53. Yeah, you can say it was because he scrambles, but then why is he scrambling! Having said that, I going to cook some eggs! Care to guess how I'm going to make them!

Because he holds onto the ball longer than just about every other QB.

Kudos to you for remaining positive tonight while most of us have been beating ourselves up. I’ll never pretend to have a fraction of the knowledge the real personnel guys do, but I can’t help but be disappointed tonight. History suggests they probably gave up an eventual starter in that pair of fourth round picks.

Fun first day picks. Maybe not the names a lot were talking about but some really talented players headed to GB.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

The more video I see of Savage, the more I love that pick. Yeah he can get knocked for his size, but the dude flies to the ball and can tackle! If Amos is the enforcer and QB in the secondary, Savage is the ball hawk. Playing next to a steady eddie like Amos is going to make Savage look like a star. I am getting really excited to see this defense play now.

He’s been known to do some neat stuff when he hangs on to the ball a long time. Much like Brett, you take the good with the bad.

Most rankings had Savage going in the 2nd or 3rd round. That's where it's coming from.

Kudos to Mel Kiper for being in on him that high - but again, most people did not.

The disappointment is when there is a belief that the pick is a reach because he would have been available later. It doesn't mean the guy isn't going to be good - no one is saying that. It's a simple belief that the pick was too high. Now, that belief may be very wrong as other teams may have been on Savage in the 1st round as well - but if not, it's disappointing that we gave up resources for a guy who we could have had later.

I read that Savage was sneaking up boards this past week - so perhaps the Packers knew someone else would take him.

After the Packers drafted Nick Collins right in front of Baltimore, Baltimore's GM called TT and congratulated him on the pick and said that Baltimore was going to take him with their pick.

There were rumors that Baltimore was really high on Savage after releasing Weddle in the offseason. History may have repeated itself.

I remember when we traded back in that draft and passed on a WR'er out of Florida...can't remember his name, Jackson or Johnson, but he was considered a top 15 pick. We ended up taking Greg Jennings with that pick.

Nobody was calling for either him, or Nick Collins and quite a few people were upset about the Rodgers pick.

On the other hand, people didn't love the Justin Harrell, they didn't love the Randall, Rollins combination. We need to be patient.

To me, it makes zero sense to get upset over the draft picks. We're all relatively ignorant about these players. Nobody that I'm aware of on here has gotten any coaches tape from Maryland or Michigan for example. We don't know. So....if I don't know, I'd rather just be optimistic until proven otherwise.

Gary did miss a month this year due to injury. He may not have been 100% after coming back, and if he does have a labrum tear, he may have been playing through that injury.

CMIII was kind of a workout warrior who didn't have a lot of production in college. You never know.

They could have given up the next TJ Lang and Josh Sitton to get Savage. They could have given up the next Marviel Underwood and Jeremy Thompson.

One thing is for sure - don't put a lot of stock in who the Packers bring in for visits. Neither Gary nor Savage visited, and I'll bet it's the same with the 2nd round pick.

Time to call it a night.

I really hope they add an offensive lineman and a pass catcher tomorrow night. They just can’t keep neglecting that side of the ball.

Goodnight, Brewer Fan. GPG.

No, they can't. They need a slot receiver. There a couple from Ohio State, I wouldn't be against one of the Ole Miss WR'ers at 44. But the defense is pretty well set, for better or worse right now.

Since there is no like button, I'll just make my own.

OntheBlack liked your post. He is curious why Gary is waiting another year to get that shoulder fixed if he definitely needs it fixed(maybe he won't).

I really like A.J. Brown if he's still around at #44. Kinda hoping Dalton Risner falls to that spot, though.

Yes to Brown. I doubt he reaches us however.

I honestly hadn't read anything about Savage until last night when I saw him compared to a bigger Bob Sanders. Now if he stays healthy, that's an All Pro Safety.

But I agree. If draft coverage wasn't such a huge industry, we'd probably all be indifferent to the draft.

I hope they load up on offense and I hope they bring Wilkerson back on a 1 year 4 million dollar deal with incentives so they can give Gary some time to develop and hopefully use him as a situational pass rusher like the Saints were doing with Davenport last year before he got hurt. A role he was pretty successful in.

If there is one attribute you can peg as a Gute need, when reviewing what he did in 2018, and so far this year, it is speed. Josh Jackson is really the only player who doesn't fit that profile.

I would say the drafting of Savage ends any talk of Jackson moving to safety, though.

I'm done guessing who's gonna be where. You'd think Metcalf would be gone by the end of tonight. The Pats almost certainly take Irv Smith...but I wouldn't be totally against the Packers doing what the Vikes did a few years ago when they drafted Rhodes, Patterson and another 1st rounder and move back up again to grab Smith if they can do so without giving up too much.
