2019 Minor League Transaction Thread

And That
Brewer Fanatic Staff
Brewers reach into the independent ranks yet again, RHP Dylan Prohoroff gets his contract purchased from the Windy City Thunderbolts (Crestwood, Illinois) of the Frontier League, as per the league's transactions page.

An 8th round pick of the Pirates in 2016 out of Cal-State Fullerton, the now-24-year-old opened his pro career at an aggressive full-season ball placement at low-A West Virginia, where he repeated in 2017, combining for 61 appearances, all in relief.

Prohoroff opened 2018 with the same affiliate yet again in 2018, but only made three appearances. He'd spend the balance of the season on the disabled list, haven't determined the cause just yet.

Pittsburgh released him in spring training this year, and then Prohoroff latched on to the independent opportunity.

Prohoroff has a pending assignment to the Timber Rattlers, it appears.

Those were some pretty impressive numbers he was putting up in the Frontier League where the talent is pretty comparable to the Midwest League. He should be able to continue having success in Midwest League. Played at top program in college too.

Technically, while now a member of the Timber Rattler roster, Prohoroff has been sent to Maryvale on a rehab assignment, so his first box score appearances will likely be in Arizona.

Player move: LHP Drew Smyly has been signed to a minor league contract.

Could be good pick up if he can get everything back. At one point in time he looked like he was going to be a very good MLB pitcher. Injuries really ended that. Lost two seasons due to injuries & just hasn’t gotten it back like Rangers hoped. Could be a steal. Fingers crossed.

LHP/OF Clayton Andrews has been promoted from Carolina to Biloxi.

RHP Aaron Kurcz transferred to the Rocky Mountain roster, though he’ll remain with Biloxi.

Apparently Clayton needed to have a bad outing before he could be promoted. Brewers just wanted to make sure he was human.

Via Brewers' Player Development:

(Biloxi) RHP Aaron Kurcz has been traded to Los Toros de Tijuana of the Mexican League in exchange for cash considerations.

Kurcz had been pitching in Mexico when he was able to catch the Brewers' attention via self-posted online video. There is likely more salary awaiting Kurcz there, this may be doing him a favor in that regard.

Turang promoted to Carolina

Aggressive & I like it!

Lutz, Turang, Henry, and Super Mario in same lineup is fun!

After just one appearance in Maryvale back on June 25th, 20-year-old 2nd-year Dominican RHP Jose Espiritu has been transferred back to the DSL Brewers roster.

Could be injury, family-related, we won't find out until he's on a mound again.

After being transferred to the DSL roster, Espiritu was released.

The Brewers also released a long-time Mass Haas favorite, outfielder Bryan Dimas. Dimas was a speedster but could never figure out how to hit a baseball really, striking out a whopping 209 times in 431 professional PAs spread over three years. He had barely played this year so the writing was on the wall a bit. Good luck to Bryan in the future.
