Makes me wonder why Peralta was penciled in as the #2

Because it just doesn't really matter these days. Managers usually have underlying reasons -- matchups, splits, historical stats, etc. for how they line up their starters to begin the season, particularly when there's very little difference between the 5 in projections. It doesn't necessarily mean that Counsell believes Peralta is our 2nd best starter.

I don't know if rotation order makes a lot of a difference, but Peralta may just be keeping that #2 spot worm for Nelson come the end of April.

End of April?

And people think I’m overly optimistic. Ha

Yeah, I think that's the schedule he's on. That'll give him 4-5 starts in AAA. He was built up to roughly 60 pitches in spring training. If they can get him to 80-90, I would imagine that, barring any injury setbacks, we'll see him in MLB by May 1.

Sounds about right to me.

Burnes needs to stop striking so many guys out so he can keep his pitch count down. Only partially joking

36 pitches through 2 innings isn't bad. I imagine they'll be happy to get 5-6 innings out of him today.

True. With the state of our bullpen I would love to see a 7 inning start by a starter soon

I hope you guys are right, and he doesn’t need more time to build up his arm strength.

When burnes inevitably strikes out 27 today, can we still call it an immaculate game even with the extra pitches and some hits given up?
Remember what Yoda said:

"Cubs lead to Cardinals. Cardinals lead to dislike. Dislike leads to hate. Hate leads to constipation."
