2019-03-29: Cardinals (Flaherty) at Brewers (Peralta) [Brewers lose, 9-5 -- Goldschmidt hits 3 HRs]

Eye Black
I know that this is mostly a reaction to but one moment in a season that just started...but woof, Barnes. He has just come to symbolize so much ineptitude for me, crew really needs to get someone else in his spot. There might be slim pickings, but there can't be much worse than he gives on an all-too-regular basis.

Maybe I'm just not remembering it right, but when he first came up I remember just being so impressed with him and his slider.

Feels like they tried to turn him into less of a fastball/slider guy and more of a cutter guy and it's just been a big failure.

These two guys calling the game for the Cardinals tv are just insufferable dbags.

Isn't that a pre-requisite for being associated with the Cardinals?

Only the Cards know how to play the game the right way.

Pretty sure we have better options.

Like who? Our bullpen looks pretty bad.

Houser would be a start. Taylor Williams also has quite a bit of talent. I guess I don’t agree with giving Barnes anymore chances. It’s been long enough.

No I think that's fair, I remember it had a lot of bend to it and looked impressive. I agree that, be it on his own or from the coaching staff, he has not been using it nearly enough, to the point that I now wonder if it's even in his arsenal anymore. I'll also totally cop to him just being 'that guy' for me, the one guy who personifies our collective years of frustration on the team. It just seems like he turns in such a stinker more often than his stats even bear out.

Wow how far Anderson has fallen, I did not think he was the mop up man

Well I wouldn't call him that just yet, going to be plenty of high leverage job opportunities in this pen by the looks of it.

Now they're fluffing Yadi for being a....god, well, basically.

Cain was safe, idiot. Stevie Wonder could have called it.

Yeah you're right, probably just looking for a low stress first bullpen appearance spot for him

Well, I'd rather see Houser up for one, but I think the Brewers were hoping that at some his performance would match his stuff. Doesn't look like that's gonna happen.

This team can't wait until the deadline or a couple of months to address the BP. Not saying go back to Kimbrel and get stupid, but they have to make a move. They're too good to let the pen be their downfall.

Yadi is such a great individual. Why, when he's not on the field making everybody in the park better, he's working on a cure for cancer, kissing babies, and brokering lasting peace in the Middle East.

The bullpen that was a Brewers strength last year could be their Achilles Heel this season. And it isn’t like they have dominant starters either.
Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Yadi would have blocked that. And would have saved a choking victim between the ball bouncing in the dirt, and catching it.

Can we not do the thing where when we lose this season we get blown out nearly every time? Obviously Counsell knows what he is doing, but being blown out by the cards/ cubs is not good for our health.

I have a lot of hope for the trio of Freddie/Woodruff/Burnes. I think Freddie was just too amped up today, and wasn't placing things the way he wanted to. Hopefully to be expected of a kid making his first team out ST, much less being the nominal #2 starter. The bullpen is definitely a worry, really missing Jeffress. With Knebel out for the year, I hope some guys step up, be it someone like Taylor or a guy from AAA/waiver wire.
