I hope we do...good for him. We could have predicted with the trade and playing time, he'd hit .275/.350 with 25-35 hr. He always reminded me of a Nelson Cruz, only with better performance at a younger age.

Oh I am sure that trade will look horrendous at face value in the future. But realistically we had nowhere to put him. They made the mistake not trading him prior to last year when I can bet the farm the offers were notably better. We backed ourselves into a corner.

 

He couldn’t have really been the 4th OFer. So unless we were going to have him as a random bench bat that was going to be a drag as far as defense goes (for a bench guy) it wasn’t going to happen.

If you look at expected wOBA Braun was still elite last season, there is no way a reasonable person wants Gamel starting over him except for the fact he needs days off to stay healthy.

I understand the trade, it just sucks to trade so low on a guy who clearly had a much higher upside. Not ideal. Post-2017 was the time to trade him if you must, unfortunately we just didn't seem to find the right deal.

Why isn’t Yelich batting 3? Get a high obp guy like Gamel in the two hole so Cain can steal bases still. Yelich needs to have more guys on base.

 

Becuase run estimators indicate a team's best hitter batting 2nd typically results in more runs scored over the course of season.
