2019 Standings and Playoff Races Discussion

Eye Black

So G163 is really a 2nd wild card game for us. If we win, we get to play Atlanta in Atlanta. If we lose and beat the Nats, we get to play LA in LA.

Not like last year where winning G163 meant home field advantage throughout the playoffs and getting to play the Rockies (who I think I heard last year referred to as the worst team to make the playoffs in the wildcard game era) in the NLDS.

I'd still rather have two bites at the apple than one though. As was discussed last year though, at what point would you abandon hope in G163 if you're losing (say the Cards took an early 3-0 lead) and save your best for the next day?

I think we may hold that title come next week

I hope so, worst team to go to or win a World Series would be even better though.

Too late. St. Louis won it all with an 83 win team.

"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

And the '87 Twins won the WS with a -20 regular season run differential so that one looks like its out too.

That year 96 win Toronto doesn't even make the playoffs along with 91 win MKE. Surprising it took so long to get to 4 teams making it on each side.

Man entire NL was a joke. 3/4 teams didn't have 90 wins. World Series ended up the lowly Cardinals and the #4 seed out of the AL in the Detroit Tigers.

The Cardinals somehow almost didn't finish above .500 despite playing 3/4 of the worst teams in the NL all year long.

Since the division is still in play one scenario still out there is the Nats/Brewers/Cardinals all end up tied and since Cards/Brewers would play game 163, if the Brewers lost they would no longer have the tiebreaker over the Nats because of game 163 and would be the road team in the Wild Card. Of course they can just win game 163 again and not worry about the Wild Card at all.

That is incorrect according to a tweet from McCalvy last night. A game 163 would not count in the Wild Card standings.
